"Tough" names for a boy

TrueRomance28 · 20/02/2012 21:17

So after spending so much time picking beautiful girls names, I find out today that all my instincts are unreliable and its a boy!
I seem to like American sounding names and the boyfriend and me both agree we want it to sound "tough"....... but we're completely stuck for ideas. We want something as different as possible without being silly if that makes sense! Can any of you help with suggestions???

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Go for Sarah Palin's sons' names- you don't get much more "tough" sounding than those. It seems that monosyllabic is the way ahead. Trig, Troy, Blaze

Not entirely certain why youy'd want to saddle your kid with a cowboy's name though in this day and age but I guess that your choice.

FWIW, Annie Proulx's toughest characters seem to have girls' names- Diamond and Ruby afair, and wasn't John Wayne's real first name Marion?

Rocky! I actually like this

Steel (know of one). I know one Titus and he's the biggest sweetest softie even now in his 40's so I would never associate
It with toughness!

Cameron, Angus, Denis, Marcus, Mark, Tony, Alexander.
Most American names sound very cutsie to me - not tough at all... Chip, Harley, Brody etc.

Clint sounds tough, but would have to much giggle appeal for 12yo boys.

colditz · 21/02/2012 00:28

Clint. It has to be Clint.

Or James Dean Surname

TrueRomance28 · 21/02/2012 00:23

I know a girl called Raven so that ones out anyway (despite how useful an interior designer may be to have in the family :o )

Ace has been top of my list for a while, currently trying to think on a possible middle name to go with that one (& lots of the others!!)

LauraTheOutlawPalmer · 21/02/2012 00:14

Titus.

Doesn't get tougher than that! But not very American. How about these...

Ace
Wyatt
Ryder
Flip
Colt

(all actual names of people I know in the US!)

colditz · 21/02/2012 00:12

You CAN'T call a boy "Raven", not if you want him to sound tough, he'll grow up to be an interior designer!

TrueRomance28 · 21/02/2012 00:05
