"Tough" names for a boy

TrueRomance28 · 20/02/2012 21:17

So after spending so much time picking beautiful girls names, I find out today that all my instincts are unreliable and its a boy!
I seem to like American sounding names and the boyfriend and me both agree we want it to sound "tough"....... but we're completely stuck for ideas. We want something as different as possible without being silly if that makes sense! Can any of you help with suggestions???

Maverick, I actually really like it, it would be a "hands off that name" if I was to have anymore children. It reminds me of Top Gun, but have heard it elsewhere recently and think it's fab :)

do you want him to SOUND tough, or to BE tough?

If you want him to be tough, call him....

Shirley, or Pamela

whenskiesaregrey · 21/02/2012 11:34

I have a friend that wanted to call her son a 'tough' name, so she called him Maddox.

MamaBearCharlie · 21/02/2012 11:07

Our friends have a boy called Rocco which I think is both brave and lovely!

BendyBob · 21/02/2012 10:14

How about Garth. Sounds big and strong. Or Wyatt (Earp). I'll keep thinking of all my favourite cowboys now. Or his brothers Virgil and Morgan.

I know a baby Hudson, I hated the name at first, but it's really grown on me. We also had a hen called Rocky (until recently.. :(). She was a great hen, I'd thoroughly recommend it as a baby name :o

crystalglasses · 21/02/2012 09:52

I would be cautious about giving a deliberately 'tough' name to a son as the child may grow up to be really weedy and not suit his name at all. For example, what about if Woody Allen was called Butch Allen?

nagynolonger · 21/02/2012 09:05

Andrew means manly doesn't it? Duke of York used to be called Randy Andy.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 21/02/2012 08:56

Randy in the UK would be cruel.
