Is this name pretentious?

Beatrice. We really like the name but want to avoid anything that whiffs of pretentiousness. Thanks

No, not at all. My very working class great grandma was a beatrice, and she was about as far from pretentious as you can get Smile

No,it was my nanny's name,she was known as Betty.
I would have loved to call DD Beatrice,NN Bea...but DP vetoed

My friend has a dd called Beatrice. Another has one called Beatrix. They were born in adjacant rooms within minutes of each other! it was a race to see who could have theirs first and lay claim to the name

FWIW I think both Beatrice and Beatrix are lovely names
