DH and I both teachers and looking for quirky names!

My DH and I are both teachers and don't want a name that will remind us of any pupil in particular- so we need something quirky/unusual but not totally "out there"!
DS is 14 months and called Logan- a name which is unusual but not in the realms of wacky and everyone seems to love it.
DC2 due in August and we don't know the sex.
Any ideas?
We've come up with a couple:
Blake
Riley
Noah

Violet
Scarlet (I don't like but DH does!)
Summer (too corney for an August baby??)

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I have an atticus too! but hes a dog

I know the list is closed but you might like:
Asher
Coltrane
Marley
Lennon
Asa
Cassius
Levi
Hendrix
Rudy
Billy

Y'know just incase you need anymore ideas (these a just a few of my DC's names and you are welcome to them)

BTW I wasnt being rude about Atticus - I only gave it to my dog because I thought I wasnt having anymore babies.
Then DC5 came along and I had to think of some more names!

Another vote for Eric, in my mind he is a blonde American teen snow border dude, not a middle aged man in nhs glasses.

Naturally281110 · 19/02/2012 20:43

Ooooohhh! Atticus...????!!!
Very glad kitty and countess enjoying joint smugness

I agree fleur is pretty but also so very very pretentious

Right now I am loving Fleur. I just think it's sooo pretty.
I like Angus and Nairn for boys, Scottish boys names are great.

bigbuttons · 19/02/2012 18:56

not keen on harmony, reminds me of the hairspray

dandelionss · 19/02/2012 18:47

Ethan makes me think of gas!

countessbabycham · 19/02/2012 18:38

I have a Skylar and an Elodie. I've got my heart set on Cohen if we ever have a boy but it's looking increasingly unlikely.
My niece is Darcie and my nephew is Flynn. Needless to say my mum thinks we're all a bit daft with names. We are Catherine and Elizabeth (dull).

CheerfulYank · 19/02/2012 18:05

Hmm...okay. Just saw your final list!

I love Sienna and Violet.

Blake is good with Logan. Harley is a girl's name to me. :) Not awfully keen on Ruben. Deacon, Corbin, Nolan? Grayson, Trenton, Dawson, Gavin, Easton?

CheerfulYank · 19/02/2012 18:02

The Logan I know has a brother named Ethan.

Hmmm...I like August with Augie as a nn rather than Gus. Eric, for Magneto's real name? Charles/Charlie for Professor X?

Naturally281110 · 19/02/2012 17:54

Hello fellow Mumsnutters! :)
It's with excitement and a little bit of sadness that I can bring this thread to its natural close.
There've been highs, there've been lows, sometimes educational and an interesting insight into some people's minds Wink. But you've been very helpful!
DH and I have short listed 3 names for each and going to wing it when DC2 arrives and see what it "looks like" (iif anything like DS will be red, wrinkly and very angry....maybe Scarlet will be appropriate!)

Ok......
......drum roll please.......

Sienna
Violet ( still there!)
Arwen
Harmony (ok, so I sneaked in a 4th! I panicked!)

Blake (still there too!!)
Harley
Ruben

Thanks

Be very wary of choosing a first name that can also be a surname. My niece did this and it causes no end of problems at hospital, doctors, and all official forms.

Socy · 19/02/2012 16:45

I love Seth, although may be difficult for a young sibling to pronounce! I also like Percy.
Loving Antigone, how about Sibley for a girl? 'Twas the name of my great grandfather's stepmother and was easy to trace her on the censuses, so not a popular name even in the late 19th century!

dementedma · 19/02/2012 15:59

heard an Aubrey in the park today which surprised me. Also it was a girl - i thought that was a boy's name?

eandh · 19/02/2012 15:58

My dd2 is Hattie unusual but not too quirky (poor dd1 is a bog standard Ellie and there are 6. In her year of 90 at school)

Other names we considered had we had a boy

Some of my fav names of the dd's friends
Bibi (means lady in a certain language she is a Bibi grace)
tayla (ta li ah)
Henrietta aka hetty
Betty (that's her actual name no shortening)
Callie
Fallon
