DH and I both teachers and looking for quirky names!

My DH and I are both teachers and don't want a name that will remind us of any pupil in particular- so we need something quirky/unusual but not totally "out there"!
DS is 14 months and called Logan- a name which is unusual but not in the realms of wacky and everyone seems to love it.
DC2 due in August and we don't know the sex.
Any ideas?
We've come up with a couple:
Blake
Riley
Noah

Violet
Scarlet (I don't like but DH does!)
Summer (too corney for an August baby??)

I would say

Isla for a girl or Niamh and Jamie for a boy.

mathanxiety · 22/02/2012 19:15

He watches too much tv.

Naturally281110 · 22/02/2012 18:58

Many thanks everyone! :)
I think we're still a bit overwhelmed by all the names and all the associations with certain ones.
DH has just suggested Sheera (as in He-man and Sheera) and is mighty pleased with himself Hmm
There is no hope.......

I was going to suggest Riley! what about Cameron, Harris, Iona, Skye, Rachel, Arran, Ria, Mia, Zia, Freya?

Blake - like
Riley
Noah - liek, but popular

Violet - not my taste
Scarlet (I don't like but DH does!) - v popular
Summer - no!

My DD is called "Rhaya" (never heard of another) and I also want the name "Kade" for my DS due June 28th, you're welcome to any of those if you like them? Wink Smile

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 21/02/2012 14:37

Teagan? More sci-fi connections? Logan and Teagan...

tildaandarchiesmummy · 21/02/2012 09:45

Teagan for a girl

Probably way too late here, but my boys have twin friends (a boy and a girl) who are such lovely kids that I'm probably biased towards their names because of it - but I do really like them:

Tavish and Linnaea.

mathanxiety · 21/02/2012 04:02

Blake is everything that was wrong about 1980s American tv.

mathanxiety · 21/02/2012 03:59

If you like names like Harmony and Melodie, how about Journey, or Seren (Welsh 'star')?
Sienna and Violet are nice. Arwen is a bit harsh to my ears.

Or Marley? Marlowe? - for a boy, instead of Harley, which is too motorbikey.

I don't like Harmony - it sounds like the brand name of an anti-depressant.
Ruben is nice but imo should be spelled Reuben.

tiptoptally · 20/02/2012 23:46

Can I squeeze Monica into the (closed) list? Uncommon but not weird.

LOVE Reuben, what about Caleb? I always associate these two names with each other for some reason!

Violet is gorgeous, but would be scared she's get Vi for short which is...well....vile.

4madboys · 20/02/2012 23:27

i know someone with a logan who also has a dd called Ebony, i like that its pretty :)

from your list i LOVE violet, i wanted that for dd but dp said no because of charlie and the chocolate factory Hmm our dd is Merryn, which has been mentioned on this thread, we love it obviously.

rudi has been mentioned and we have a rudi as well!

i like ruben, its ds2's middle name but spelt reuben :)

if dd had been a boy she would have been Emmett :)

rainnie · 20/02/2012 23:08

My second daughter is called Verity. It means truth, and she is a wonderful child. Some thought it was too old for a baby, but I thought it better to have a name she could grow into rather than grow out of.

NotnOtter · 20/02/2012 22:58

we named ds5 Amory - reactions were sooooo annoying - we changed it to another name....on here ...never seen on MN before !! odd

gemmaintheloft · 20/02/2012 22:54

I have an Elliott and an Olive, different enough not to be too common but not too quirky either. x

cerealqueen · 20/02/2012 22:41

DP and I seriously considered Emerald for a girl and i still like it.

Ranelaghmammy · 20/02/2012 22:16

I like Bryn.

Of course it all depends on how it scans with your surname.

cityangel · 20/02/2012 22:11

Erin, Harriet, Clarissa

Otis, Eason, Connor

LadyHarrietDeSpook · 20/02/2012 21:57

LadyHarrietDeSpook · 20/02/2012 21:56

clementine
cosima

amory (boy)

Mollydoggerson · 20/02/2012 21:43

Jude,
Aidan

Delia

IamtheSnorkMaiden · 20/02/2012 21:30

Logan and...

Fraser
Padraig
Ciaran
Rory
Breon
Jowan (rhymes with Rowan not Joanne)

Frieda
Bridie
Ishbel
Lowen
Violetta
Julia
Ana (pronounced Arna)

SecretMinceRinser · 20/02/2012 21:28

Apart from Blake they are all fairly common names where I live.

Less common names I like:

Boys - Rowan, Rufus, Sebastian.

Girls - Elodie, Francesca

Deadsouls · 20/02/2012 21:19

Noah - there's loads of Noahs around where I live, and Summer. Not too many Scarlet, Scarlet's quite nice
