Does Romilly Waller sound nice or silly?

Love the name Romilly, not sure if it goes with our surname though.

I think Romy Waller might work. Similar name in some ways but has some essential difference.

Jennifer is very nice with the surname imo.

Avoid all Char- names.

I knew a Helen Waller do the proliferation of ls needn't be a problem. I think it's more the o-i-ee-er combo!

Agree Romilly is lovely but doesn't go with your surname. I really love the other names on your list though, and they work well!

Oh, Percy, don't - Della has always been my all time favourite name! I had only just got over the fact that I can't use it, but you've bought all the emotion flooding back

I had thought that Romilly could work because it doesn't end in an "-er" or "-a" sound, and because it doesn't have an "-oll" sound in it, only an "-ill" sound which is different and therefore must be okay

But it doesn't, I know that really. Oh well, time to move on!

What about a Celia Waller? Hillary, Sienna, Tamsin? All floating on and off my list.. I'm with you on the "not too traditional but not too popular" and having a complete nightmare!

My dd is a Romilly, call her what you like, after all how often are we called by our full name!!! Just give her a good firm middle name. ( just make sure it doesnt start with an A )

Agree with other posters that you need a name without the /l/ + consonant combination if your surname has it.

If you have to ask, it probably means it's not quite the right name for you. Good luck with your search! It's a pretty name though.

Kate Waller definitely does work...but it's DH's sister's name so a no-go!

Other possibilities which work but which I'm a bit meh about (but could be convinced to love if pushed!):

Hazel (although have concerns about family (inc me!) pronouncing it "Hay-zorl" due to Essex accent...)

Jennifer (did think about Genevieve, but I'm not too keen)

I'm after something pretty but not too girly (e.g. Annabel which is a pretty name but a bit too princessy for me) , nothing too traditional (e.g. Charlotte or Elizabeth - again lovely names, but there's nothing "a little different" about them) and nothing too popular (e.g Sophie or Olivia).

Hard this naming malarky, innit?

I also think that you need a more simple one. I don't know why but Kate Waller sounds strong and feminine to me as one suggestion... Merryn also lovely

Hmmmm, feedback is pretty much as I expected!! Sometimes I think it just about works and at other times I think it sounds awful (but am probably guilty of overthinking it!). The thought of Womilly Waller is also pretty off-putting Grin

Not sure of middle name - quite like Blythe at the moment...but not sure that a name ending with "th" goes well with a name starting with a "w" - it's all a bit "thw" and, well, a bit Tim Nice-But-Dim!! (again I hold my hands up to over-thinking things)

Merryn is another name that I would LOVE but DH despises it for some reason. Gutted.

Not sure. I'd worry that if she had difficulty pronouncing her Rs, as so many young children do, Womilly Waller could sound very ungainly for a bit too long. Like mathanxiety's instinct for a sharper edged first name.
