After DH went stone cold on my favourite name Hugo, Oscar has now come back into the limelight. Your thoughts, good and bad would be welcomed.

i have an Oscar, Oscar Reuben to be precise, he is 9 and he is fab Grin its a great name :)

dementedma · 10/03/2012 22:03

know one dog and two cats called Oscar

IWillNotNeverEatATomato · 09/03/2012 19:32

I believe that has been the most popular boys name in Brighton for the last few years (seem to remember reading in the local press)

and it is generally more popular in the South East generally (National Statistics break down by area)

so it depends on where you are as to how popular it is

if this matters to you - which it might not

(I really like it btw)

I live in London and our Oscar is the only one we know. I don't live in Hampstead, Stoke-Newington, or Queens Park though...

othersideofchannel · 20/02/2012 12:58

"Unless you call your child something totally obscure or made up yes you will meet another child with that name"

There are A LOT of names that are neither 'popular' (say, in the top 50 or 100) nor 'obscure/made up'!

seaweedhead · 20/02/2012 11:33

Its lovely- was on my shortlist for ds. I'm in the north east and its not at all common round here.

Ihatepeas · 20/02/2012 11:08

Best. Name. Ever.

DS1 is an Oscar.

othersideofchannel · 20/02/2012 09:59

I don't like Oscar or the nickname Ozzie at all, I'm afraid.

Hugo is much nicer.

ZenNudist · 19/02/2012 23:36

Oscar is a very common name now. I hated it the first time I heard it used was a bit Hmm , but think it's quite nice now it has associations with the lovely oscars I know. Don't love Hugo but it's a taste thing isn't it? Go with what you feel right with. Come to think of it I don't know any Hugos, young or old...

hypoxia · 19/02/2012 23:16

Oscar is a lovely name but quite common now. I know four baby oscars.

spiderlight · 18/02/2012 18:50

Love it. I only know one - he's lovely and it really suits him.

thereistheball · 18/02/2012 16:36

Maybe little boys will start looking up and running too Wink

effingwotsits · 17/02/2012 12:20

Hate it. It's a dog.

DingbatsFur · 16/02/2012 23:17

We have an Oscar. Unusual enough and a lot of family were unsure but he is a star!

notcitrus · 16/02/2012 22:23

There;s 3 Oscars in ds's nursery - and only 45 kids, half girls!
I couldn't use it after growing up on Oscar the Grouch but that's probably not an issue now.

Itsallacademicanyway · 16/02/2012 21:52

I really like Oscar, and I don't know of any.

PestoPenguin · 16/02/2012 21:11

Love Hugo and like Oscar too Grin
