Morning, i am not a not a big poster, more of a lurker but due dc2 in 16 weeks. We have a girls name picked but i am struggling with a boys name. We have one DS and I love his name, its quite unusual and old. I just cant seem to find a name that I love as much as his and I have 4 baby name books! At the moment I am liking Hayden. No offense but I hate the Cadens, Jaydens etc but Hayden doesnt bother me even though they rhyme. At least I have lots of time but would like in my head to have him named.

So could please help me decide among the few that I/we actually like seeing as this one is most likely another boy! (according to scan!)

Adam
Caleb
Hayden
Sam
Daniel
Finn
(on original list for DS we had Noah and Matthew but not really sure about these now)

Many thanks :)

Itsallacademic... funny but I put those two on the list and they have been crossed off by DH!
Thanks for the replies, it seems to be a name to either love or hate. Would rather not give DS1s name as I am sure to be recognised if I do!! It ends in N so Hayden would sound nice with it, though I am not specificially looking for a name that will. Sam would also go well with it but not sure if I like it enough to call my child that!
Caleb is new to the list (DH) so I am unsure on that one. As for middle names......he will probably not get one as I have asked DH to give him his middle name!

Caleb is best

If my eldest DD had been a boy, she would have been a Haydn. I once dated a lovely, middle class Haydn and so when it came to naming my DD I had lovely impressions of the name.

However, DD turned out to be a girl and on occasions we have said what her boy name would have been, I have mostly had a negative reaction including a few 'lucky escape' comments.

I do think it has been lumped in as the same sort of name as the Jaydens / Cadens and so on...

If that doesn't bother you, then go for it - it is a great name. But I have to say the negative comments were enough to keep it off my boy list when I had DD2.
Sorry.

I would spell it Haydn.

Itsallacademicanyway · 14/02/2012 11:52

I love love love Caleb. What about Isaac or Zachary?

SoupDragon · 14/02/2012 11:46

I don't like Hayden at all. From your list, Caleb is a good underused name.

LaFilleSurLePont · 14/02/2012 11:41

Noah is gorgeous
Matthew is very nice

LaFilleSurLePont · 14/02/2012 11:41

Hayden Love
Adam Love
Caleb is ok
Sam is ok
Daniel is lovely
Finn is horrid and overused.

Positiveplus · 14/02/2012 09:31

I love Hayden too! Would be on our shortlist.
Like Daniel too though not as keen on Dan.
Like Finn / Finlay / Flynn too.

I guess if you want it to 'match' your DS name, then maybe avoid Sam, Adam, Noah and Matthew as these are quite ordinary and popular (could add Daniel to that list too I suppose).

Would be good to know your DS's name??!!! (nosey) Smile

Mrsfromwales · 14/02/2012 08:37

I love Hayden but agree about the other rhyming names being awful somehow?
From your lost my faves are Noah and Finn, although alot of Noahs have been born round here recently, so to me it feels like it is getting more popular! X
puts Hayden on potential name list Grin

CuppaTeaJanice · 14/02/2012 08:31

I wat to know your DS's name

Girls names are so much easier, aren't they. They don't seem to fall into stereotypes (posh/dull/old man/poncey/chav etc) like boys names do. I could have named 20 girls but struggled to find any boys names I liked.

Ezra, Efryn and Nyjah were on our shortlist if you want non-dull suggestions!! Smile

pinkladyslipper · 14/02/2012 08:22

Thanks, its funny as I don't like Aidan either! Hayden is the only one of those soundng names that I like! Its finding a name that isnt dull that is my problem, Adam, Daniel, Matthew are fine names but sound a little dull with DSs name! I am annoying DH with the names, maybe it will just hit me when he is born (hmmm maybe the sonographers theory on he being a "he" is wrong, naming a girl is much easier for us!)

I like Adam, Sam, Daniel and Finn. Also like Noah and Matthew. Not so keen on Hayden because of the Jayden/Kayden/Braydon thing.

CuppaTeaJanice · 14/02/2012 08:12

Hayden is a lovely name, as is Aidan. I agree the Kayden/Jayden/Brayden/Shaydon etc names are awful, but there is no link apart from the fact they rhyme. After all lots of babies are called Harry, whereas not many people would choose the name Barry these days!!

I also like Adam and Caleb from your list, Matthew and Daniel are ok if a little dull. Finn is massively overused, Noah is a bit 'Boden slacks and BMW' and I can't stand the name Sam, sorry. Smile

RnB · 14/02/2012 08:04

Much prefer Adam, Sam or Daniel.
