Other than Tobias ofcourse!
We loved the name Toby and were totally set on it until recently realized there is a children's super hero that is massive here in holland called megga Toby! It's an annoying character!
Any thoughts in simular type names? Needs to go with Jacob as middle name!

Kobi - seems popular in a seaside town where I work.

Others that come to my mind in the same ilk as Toby are...

vitaminC · 13/02/2012 20:28

Why not switch the names around and use Jacob Toby or Jacob Tobias? Both lovely names, btw :)

LouMacca · 13/02/2012 20:33

Barney?

I love Tobin! But I can't get my husband on it! I love Jacob but in holland they say yaaa kob.... It's a name used in my husbands family so that's why we want it! The other names mentioned are ok but none I love. Thanks!

Barnaby
Linus
Joel

vitaminC · 13/02/2012 20:52

Oooh, Joel is lovely and very similar in style to Toby!

OP, why does the different pronunciation bother you? My kids are all bilingual and pronounce their names differently depending on which language they're speaking! It's never been a problem for them.

Italiangreyhound · 13/02/2012 20:53

Troy.

Bellaholland · 13/02/2012 21:46

It does not bother me if I'd different I just don't like the way it's pronounced! Sounds so harsh.

I know a Dutch/English couple with a Robin.

Oakmaiden · 13/02/2012 23:28

I love the name Toby. But then ?I have a Toby, so I am biased.

Hate the name Joel though.

Why not something like Archie, or Alfie, or Charlie?

slowburner · 13/02/2012 23:29

Bear in mind that a superhero now will not be a superhero by the time your son grows up, as long as he knows who and why he was named then it should matter. If you love the name then go for it, I named my child once I met her, her name suits her and she couldn't be any other name!

NanaNina · 13/02/2012 23:56

Agree with slowburner - but then I have a Toby (now in his 30's) and he is Toby Oliver and his son is Finlay Oliver. When I had Oliver for a name all those years ago no-one had ever heard of it, and now they are 10 a penny.

Toby Jacob doesn't sound right to me - as someone else has said, why not Jacob Toby. Fashions change - we have 2 Arthurs in our road, both about a year old - reminds me of a bald headed old man!

Bellaholland · 14/02/2012 08:55

I am winning on the Tobin front with my husband, what are your thoughts?

Bellaholland · 14/02/2012 09:31

Oh forget it! Been reminded to much of Peter Tobin!
