What do you think ladies?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ThePoorMansBeckySharp · 11/02/2012 06:04

No.

Lovecat · 10/02/2012 22:36

My sister is a Janet (outing self hugely). Don't know what she thinks of it now she's 40something, but she hated it with a vengeance all the way through her childhood and teenage years. Rocky Horror has a lot to answer for - I used to work with a Bradley who refused to have his name shortened to Brad because of that song...

PopcornBiscuit · 10/02/2012 22:31

How about Jet or Jan as nicknames?

pilates · 10/02/2012 22:30

Awful

RustyBear · 10/02/2012 22:12

I'm a Janet (andThough I was born in e fifties, I have no doilies, armchair covers, Royal Albert or pot pourri anywhere near me, thank you)

Growing up I was called Jinny, Jinty, Janey but never Nettie or Ettie. When I was about 17 I decided that if I was going to have a nn I would choose it myself, and I have been Jan ever since - in fact most of the people I work with don't know I'm Janet, they tend to assume Jan is short for Janine or Janice.

tummytickler · 10/02/2012 22:02

I like Janet with the nn Nettie or Ettie.

tesoro · 10/02/2012 21:55

Does anyone have any suggestions for a nn for Janet?

Might be wrong but I'm sure I read somewhere that Janet along with Jane are still two of the most popular middle names around. As is James for a boy. I guess for a lot of people they are family names of a generation or so ago.

IndigoBell · 10/02/2012 21:38

You def want to watch the rocky horror picture show before you call your DD janet :)

workshy · 10/02/2012 21:38

didn't Janet sing...
t-t-t-t-t-t-touch me, I wanna be dirty.............

I know a Janet who is 21 and it doesn't suit her -you have to be 40+ to be called Janet

muffinino82 · 10/02/2012 21:34

Dammit! Janet! Grin

Can't see anything particularly wrong with it, although I prefer Jane. which is lovely imo.

You have to avoid foo foo names. No Janet or Mary for girls, no Percy or Willy for boys.

Especially if your surname is Shelley Wink

EssieW · 10/02/2012 21:29

No. My mother is Janet. It's OK but nothing more. I think DD could use it (She's only 2) as by then it will acquire granny chic status.

ChickensGoMeh · 10/02/2012 21:23

I have an Aunt Janet. She uses doillies and those armchair covers. And has Royal Albert china and pot pourri in little glass dishes. And she pronounces it 'POT POURY'.

icapturethecastle · 10/02/2012 21:23

No No No

R2PeePoo · 10/02/2012 21:22

Dammit Janet (Rocky Horror Picture Show.....)

Hey, Janet
Yes, Brad?
I've got something to say
Uh huh?
I really love the...skillful way
You beat the other girls
To the bride's bouquet

Oh...oh, Brad
The river was deep but I swam it
The future is ours, so let's plan it
So please don't tell me to can it
I've one thing to say, and that's
Dammit Janet, I love you
The road was long but I ran it

There's a fire in my heart and you fan it
If there's one fool for you then I am it
I've one thing to say, and that's
Dammit Janet, I love you
Here's a ring to prove that I'm no joker
There's three ways that love can grow
That's good, bad, or mediocre
Oh J-A-N-E-T, I love you so

Oh, it's nicer than Betty Munroe had
Now we're engaged and I'm so glad
That you met Mom and you know Dad
I've one thing to say, and that's
Brad, I'm mad, for you too
Oh, Brad

Oh, dammit
I'm mad
Oh, Janet
For you
I love you too
There's one thing left to do, ah-hoo
And that's go see the man who began it
When we met in his science exam-it
Made me give you the eye and then panic
Now I've one thing to say, and that's
Dammit Janet, I love you
Dammit, Janet

LaTristesse · 10/02/2012 21:16

Eek, sorry DrZeus, I think what I meant was it suits a woman, but I can't picture anyone under 30 being called Janet, and certainly not a baby! I'll stop digging now... Blush

drzeus · 10/02/2012 21:13

Definitely not dated and ugly

drzeus · 10/02/2012 21:12

I like it (but then I'm biased) as its my name!

LaTristesse · 10/02/2012 21:07

Janet is a foo foo name?! It's not for me though I'm afraid; dated and ugly.

FaithHopeAndKevin · 10/02/2012 20:58

You have to avoid foo foo names. No Janet or Mary for girls, no Percy or Willy for boys.

pchick · 10/02/2012 20:58

Had a lovely aunts Janet. I woud chose it.

BelleEnd · 10/02/2012 20:56

YES! Look past the 1950s thing, and it is a beautiful name. I also love Susan and Pamela (sorry jandy :o ) and Keith, Stephen and Bobby which are IMO male equivalents. These names will be way cooler than the old lady names which are now- They will be ten a penny in 10 years and these will take their place, mark my words.
