Queenie

Thoughts on Queenie?

I love Queenie, we are in south east London and I love that she would have a sense of relevant local history to her name.

There are a lot of the old fashioned names coming back around here like Dolly, Mabel, Ethel and Maud so I don't think it would be that out there and I really do like the idea of her beng able to tell people about the history of her name.

It reminds me of Adrian Mole

Chubfuddler · 10/02/2012 20:32

Ivy and violet are also awful.

Denj33 · 10/02/2012 20:31

Why is it cruel??
It's also the name of a shape, people call their DDs ivy and violet, does that mean they think they are plants??

lottiegb · 10/02/2012 20:14

Queenie was surely only ever a nickname, for Victoria, could be used for Elizabeth. You wouldn't use 'Kingy' would you.

Makes me think of Queenie in Blackadder (cute, if ruthless), or as an adjective pertaining to the band, or to theatrically gay behaviour 'that's a bit queenie'.

That a julienne, quenelle is an oval shape, as in quenelle of ice cream :)

seeker · 10/02/2012 19:56

Quenelle? Really? Like the shape you carve carrots into?

shelley72 · 10/02/2012 19:56

it was my late grandma's name, and my god did she live up to it Smile. so i do have a soft spot for it, but its not a name that i considered for our DD. Lily also has royal connections (Lilibet was queens nickname) although its quite cutesy and popular around here

MyLifeIsStillChaotic · 10/02/2012 19:55

No, no, no. Just no.

Denj33 · 10/02/2012 19:54

Yes, French dumpling. Also a shape!!
Think it's v pretty

I think queenie is pretty

ThatVikRinA22 · 10/02/2012 19:48

i like Queenie - its meant to be a pet name for my name which is Victoria.

EdithWeston · 10/02/2012 19:46

Regina is a fab name, but only when pronounced in the proper old-fashioned way (to rhyme with vagina; the US version "regeena" grates on me big time).

Chubfuddler · 10/02/2012 19:45

Jesus Christ no. And not Elsie either. It was my grandmother's name and she hated it.

Elizabeth, if you want something connected with the jubilee.

PopcornBiscuit · 10/02/2012 19:43

Cyrene means "sovereign queen".

TwllBach · 10/02/2012 19:43

Regina is my secret fantasy name. I would love to use it

seeker · 10/02/2012 19:42

It was a pet name for Victoria originally.Presumably later for Elizabeth too.

When I was very small I knew a lady, who seemed very old, who was called Queenie. She was lovely, so I have good associations with the name.

If you want a regal name for 2012: Regina, Virginia, Gloria, Raine, Jubilee?

baskingseals · 10/02/2012 19:35

i quite like it

what name was it a nickname for? or just a nickname like 'princess'?

PopcornBiscuit · 10/02/2012 19:35

People are always recommending Quentin on here, so I can't see why not Queenie :)

seeker · 10/02/2012 19:33

It was never a name in it's own right- always a nickname. And you can't possibly use it in a Jubilee year- you just can't!

dawn1967 · 10/02/2012 19:31

I think it's quite cool and very individual. Would work as an adult too. Love it!
