I know a lovely Zane.

Wouldn't use it myself (as v. traditional me) but I don't think its particularly chavvy, modern and quirky but not sure it's chavvy.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 08/02/2012 15:05

Zain for Asian boys is fine, Zane for others not.
IMO, people do put names into boxes. Miles and Hugo are posh boys, Alfie and Liam are not. In the same way, Lucinda and Marguerite are posh girls, Ruby and Jessica are not.
I've got one of those girls names.

whackamole · 08/02/2012 14:45

I like it actually. Should've been on our list for DS3 - would've gone nicely with our older boys names!

rachel234 · 08/02/2012 14:18

herhonesty, some British people seem to be obsessed with labelling names according to how 'chav' or 'posh' they are. I don't get it either and would hope that most people wait until they meet a person before judging them, purely on the basis of what name their parents chose many years ago.

Voidka · 08/02/2012 13:36

We have quite a few in our school, but most of them are spelt Zain.

wilkos · 08/02/2012 13:33

I know a Zane, hes lovely and not chavvy.

only thing is, his mum calls him "Zany", which I find a bit Hmm

each to their own!

Firawla · 08/02/2012 13:32

the spelling zain looks nicer imo

herhonesty · 08/02/2012 13:30

Sorry obv should have written Chav.

I know a Zane and he's a very nice child so only positive connatations coming from here.
And I've nver heard of Zane Lowe or the other one mentioned.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 08/02/2012 12:40

Ghastly. Duncan is much better.

ItsGrimUpNorth · 08/02/2012 12:31

I loathe it. So naff. Sorry!

hermionestranger · 08/02/2012 12:29

My friends little boy is zain. Not chavvY at all. Used because the mum is British and dad Bangladeshi, so a good middle ground.

Tirana · 08/02/2012 12:27

I think it's chav too, quite nice though. Maybe if you're a hippy / surfer type of family you could get away with it.

3boysgirlontheway · 08/02/2012 10:33

I like it but, it sounded awful with our surname.

TeWihara · 08/02/2012 10:30

I really like it. Very solid sounding but not boring.

DH is not a Zane Lowe fan though so didn't want it.

SimoneD · 08/02/2012 09:41

Love it. Dont think it's chavvy (hate that word!) either

rachel234 · 08/02/2012 09:30

I quite like it. Certainly nicer and more 'solid' than Zac/Zach.

EdithWeston · 08/02/2012 08:54

I'd think of Zane Grey. Are you fans of his, or westerns in general?

missnevermind · 08/02/2012 08:52

Love it. Would go well with the rest of my lot.

herhonesty · 08/02/2012 08:49

Chav?.. Really?...

OP posts:
hksi · 08/02/2012 08:24

Chav??

canistartagainplease · 08/02/2012 08:19

No

Iheartpasties · 08/02/2012 08:13

I don't love it.

Montsti · 08/02/2012 07:57

Quite like the Z sound but the actual name in full makes me think, "zany" or "sane" so doesn't sound right...

Not one of my favourites but don't dislike it either...
