I absolutely love the name Woody, but worry that as DS (I'm 17 weeks pregnant) grows up, he may need something more 'serious' to fall back on - I'd like to name him Edward (Woody) Ernest Murphy. My DH points out that he might be called Eddie Murphy. I actually like Eddie, but worry that he might have the piss taken out of him a bit. I figure if I push for the nn Woody, we might get away with it? Any thoughts? Hormones may be getting in the way of a clear decision here :-)

I think Eddie is quite likely, and someone's bound to make "Eddie Murphy" connection.Edward is pronounced Ed-wuhd, not Ed-wood, so not keen on Woody as nickname I'm afraid. And there's that problem Seeker describes so succinctly...!

Ernest is a great name though - could you use this as first name? :)

Woody is a hard on to me.

Woody will be the Toy Story cowboy to this generation for quite some time I would say. To the rest of us it is an erection!

I wouldn't worry about it - great name and the chances of him being Eddie arent tha high if you call him Woody.

My dh has the same name as a famous singer, as does my ds2 (not deliberately) and it doesn't do them any harm.
