Three week old DS doesn't have a name, fed up of him being 'baby'!

DS is now three weeks old and we're getting to the stage where finding a name is desperate! Before he was born it was pretty much decided that he would be either Seamus, Marcus or Fergus. However, he just doesn't 'feel' like any of those names. Ciaran and Alexander were also possibilities but just aren't him. So could you lovely MNers through some great names at us? We like older names and also Gaelic names - the help would be much apprieciated!
Almost forgot, middle name is needed too.

Next suggestion is, choose a name, don't tell DH, and just as you've squeezed out the baby in question, say "ahhh, look at our gorgeous baby that I've just delivered - he looks just like a XXX don't you think?!" :o :o

lyonheart · 06/02/2012 18:43

Ooh thank you very much! DH has had the final say on Aidan, Oisin and Eoghan - all 'wrong' apparently. Meanwhile he is fixated on the name Conor which I irrationally hate (mainly due to the nn Con). So back to the drawing board :(
Agree Lachlan is fab, but don't really want another 'L' name. Alban is absolutely gorgeous but DH is having none of it. Sean, Brodie, Tavish and Dominic are all lovely. I'll try them out on DH later. Suggestions still most welcome!

If you like Ewan but are worried about the E, what about Iwan/Iuan - isnt that the welsh spelling?

Please use Lachlan...my DH voted it Sad

Fergus is a brilliant name.

Good Luck

Tillyscoutsmum · 06/02/2012 09:23

Great taste OP. We have a Fergus Alexander. It did (does) seem like quite a grown up name for a small baby so it took some getting used to. He tends to be Fergie, Ferg or Gus atm.

I also like Marcus, Alasdair, Fraser, Lorcan, Lachlan, Gilbert, Dominic & Laurence

OzzieLou · 06/02/2012 09:17

OK, I am so competitive I feel like I want to win the naming baby Lyonheart game. Oisin's a big hero in Irish mythology.

My nephew is called Aidan, it's a lovely name and apparantly it means "Little Fire" which is quite cool.

Also have always like Gregor and Fergus.

pressingbuttons · 06/02/2012 01:06

Congratulations!
No one has mentioned Alisdair/Alistair yet if you fancy it?
Gregor, (no not typo - without a y -v Scottish),
Adam, Callum, Douglas, Iain, Robert, Stewart/Stuart,
Alisdair James or Campbell,
Duncan Alexander or Fergus,
I could go on all day...but I won't!

PrisonerOfWaugh · 05/02/2012 23:19

Ooooh I've got one: Alban. It is wondrous Smile

lollystix · 05/02/2012 23:19

lollystix · 05/02/2012 23:17

eoghan is lovely. I have a Fergus (ds3) and it felt like a very brave step but now I really don't regret it. So maybe you should consider Hamish a bit more -It's lovely.

MaggieAtwood · 05/02/2012 23:15

A brief list I have in my head at the moment includes, Aidan, Oisin and Eoghan.

Sandy was our chosen nn for Alexander, but he came out with lovely brown hair! Not massively keen on the other nicknames.
Rufus is a great name, as is Hamish but I'm not brave enough!
Should add that we have a Lana as well.
