How about Miranda, Miriam, Marla, Mirabelle, Marianne, Melissa?

DamonSalvatoreIsMyLoveSlave · 04/02/2012 22:15

I thought of the coil too... Sorry

FranticBanana · 04/02/2012 21:26

I too know a lovely Marina (there's obviously a few of them around). She is not fond of her name, and goes by the nn Mina.

ellesabe · 04/02/2012 21:25

A marina is a place to keep boats. Not keen I'm afraid.

nailak · 04/02/2012 21:08

mirena coil

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 04/02/2012 21:08

I can appreciate that it is pretty and not overused, but I keep thinking of boats, and lots of teenage jokes about able seamen, any port in a storm, etc etc. however if you like it, go for it, kids will make a joke out of anything .....

I think having both the r and n in the name makes it too strong and masculine and reminds me of morris marina.

PutThatCatOutNow · 04/02/2012 21:03

Lovely :)

SESthebrave · 04/02/2012 21:00

I know a Marina who is lovely.

However, it always makes me think of a marina, like Brighton Marina and then doesn't really seem like a "proper" name to me.

VeronicaSpeedwell · 04/02/2012 20:58

I love this name, as does DH. Not keen on the Maryna spelling though, and I think it would introduce pointless confusion about pronunciation.

DorothyGherkins · 04/02/2012 20:56

Oh well done Roxy, I m sitting here singing the very same!

southeastastra · 04/02/2012 20:56

stingray too, and a place where they keep boats Grin

also what if they can't swim?

PopcornBiscuit · 04/02/2012 20:55

Lovely, very pretty.

RoxyRobin · 04/02/2012 20:55

DorothyG Thanks - I can't get it out of my head now! 'Marina, Aqua Marina, What are these strange enchantments that start whenever you're near ...'

sleeplessinderbyshire · 04/02/2012 20:54

sounds like a Mirena coil to me, sorry

justonemorethread · 04/02/2012 20:54

Love it! Makes me think of this happy Italian song (which you will probably only love if you're Italian).

I vaguely know a Marina who is a lovely person

SharkBite · 04/02/2012 20:54

Wasn't there a Morris Marina?

TunipTheVegemal · 04/02/2012 20:52

I love it.
There used to be a MNer called Marina, she was lovely, I wonder what happened to her.

YummyMummybee · 04/02/2012 20:51

Thanks girls it is cute isnt it? As previously posted love both Polly, Molly & Maisy as forms as Mary. So maybe a solution would be Marina with the option of the above as nickname Nigellas guest Marnie would be a fab nn too.

Any other opinions on the Maryna spelling-I googled it & it can also be spelt like this. Would Maryna eliminate the Maria mistakes & also the association with the marina coil??

Love Marina - would have used it myself if I'd had a DD.

LoveInAColdClimate · 04/02/2012 20:51

I don't like it either. It's where you keep boats, not a name. Sorry.

COCKadoodledooo · 04/02/2012 20:50

The only Marina I know is the engine in my car..

usualsuspect · 04/02/2012 20:49

Stingray

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 04/02/2012 20:48

I think coil too

SnapSnafu · 04/02/2012 20:47

I love it. Went to school with one, Italian background. Ben Fogle's wife is a Marina too.
