Are our final two a bit crap?

We've finally managed to narrow it down to two names for each sex, and I think we're going to wait to meet the baby before we choose the final name. However, I'm really worried that our final two are a bit crap! What do you think of them, are they useable and do you have a favourite? DS's are Otis and Monty.

Asha Genevieve
or
Romilly Abigail

Tor Zachary
or
Gray Isaac

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I like Asha - have never heard of one in real life but it makes me think of the Song of Ice and Fire character :) It's a good name, not silly at all. Romilly is lovely too.

I don't like Tor or Gray though, sorry. Especially Gray, too surname-ish and not even a nice/interesting colour! Isaac and Zachary are better, I'd be inclined to switch first/middle names around for the boy's ones.

BoysInCoatheads · 03/02/2012 14:21

I like the girls names, although they would probably go better with shorter middle names.

Don't like the boys names but that's just my tastes, you really should go with what you love.

DialsMavis · 03/02/2012 14:19

prefer Genevieve Asha, but I wouldn't be Hmm if I heard any of the names. Love, love, LOVE Otis and Monty BTW

nailak · 03/02/2012 14:13

Asha is nice, it is a name in many cultures and languages, such as in polish it is short for Joanna, and it is also a name in Hindi and swahili, in Arabic it is a nn for asiya.

I fail to understand what is weird and silly a about it?

Bonsoir · 03/02/2012 13:55

Tor, Gray and Asha are all just weird.

speculationisrife · 03/02/2012 13:51

Romilly is beautiful - top 3 for me if we have another dd. I think it goes nicely with Abigail, too. Like Zachary. Not keen on Asha, but that's probably because I knew one I didn't like. Isaac, Zak for short, I also like. Not keen on Gray - v. American, but fine if you are!

ASByatt · 03/02/2012 13:50

Actually thinking about it, I do know a Tor, had forgotten initially because he is usually called 'Vicky' by his peergroup.......

lisaro · 03/02/2012 13:48

Gray is awful, and not even spelled correctly. Tor and Asha are just silly.

RetroMum1 · 03/02/2012 13:45

I don't like them but everybody likes different names. I know that most people on here wouldn't like our chosen girls name which is why I haven't posted it. If you like it then go for it. After all it is you who will be using it for the rest of its life!

Montsti · 03/02/2012 11:03

I like Romilly and Zachary but am afraid really don't like any of the other names...

sonniboo · 03/02/2012 10:19

I like Asha - feminine and works well in most languages. Romilly sounds odd imo...

I think Tor is a great boys name and goes well with your other dc's names.

ASByatt · 03/02/2012 10:00

I wouldn't name a child after a colour associated with blandness and lack of character - also, John Major instantly springs to mind.....

sorry!

(but wouldn't life be boring if we all had the same opinions on everything?)

ED1984 · 03/02/2012 09:55

I like Asha and Romilly. Not sure on Tor or Gray though.

Love your 2 current boys names though - Otis and Monty are great. We are considering Monty for our baby but are still a little unsure about it. How old is your Monty? A little irrelevant to your post sorry, but have you had any negative thoughts / feedback on his name? Just want honest opinions from someone who has a Monty!

seeker · 03/02/2012 09:37

Drop the first names and use the second ones, they aree all lovely.

SoozyWoozy · 03/02/2012 09:33

I love Romilly. Genevieve is a very long name and difficult to learn to spell for the child! I know a Genevieve who is known as Evie. For me, Gray is nice but is nn for Graham. Tor I've only known as nn for Victoria, so don't see it as a male name. The boys names work better the other way around - Isaac Gray flows better. I know too many Zachary / Zack / Zac / Zak to like it.

There should be a degree course in naming children, it is so hard!!!

SoFarWeAreEqual · 03/02/2012 08:08

I think Romilly is very pretty, don't like Asha very much though.

I really like Gray but Tor is not nice at all, sorry.

nooka · 03/02/2012 03:26

I like Romilly (and Romy too) and I really like Genevieve.

My surname used to be Gray so I really really don't see it as a first name. It's not even a particularly nice colour!

PopcornBiscuit · 02/02/2012 23:58

Romilly Abigail

Tor Zachary

PiedWagtail · 02/02/2012 23:28

I like Genevieve and Romilly. Also Gray. Not sure about Tor (whoever said it's Scottish - it isn't!)

Doodlegoogle · 02/02/2012 23:19

I like all of them - I think we have quite similar taste! Genevieve would be on our list if it weren't for the surname clash and I really dislike lots of boys names but Tor is on our slim list as is Isaac and Zachary.
We looked at all the longer versions of Tor and were unconvinced. It is a proper name in itself - I knew a very lovely Norweigan man called Tor once which is where we got the idea from. I think it is also Scottish.

CheerfulYank · 02/02/2012 23:15

All that comes to mind is this :o

hohohoshedittant · 02/02/2012 22:58

Gray Brick is a brilliant name. Use it Yank.

CheerfulYank · 02/02/2012 22:56

I really like Gray, and am sad I can never use it as my last name is Brick.

Romilly is nice. Genevieve nicer IMO.

Tryharder · 02/02/2012 22:48

Isaac is fab. Definitely make that your first name. Gray and Tor sound like a Mills and Boon heroes (although you might think that is a good thing Grin)

Are you pronouncing Genevieve in the French or English way?

awomenscorned · 02/02/2012 22:41

Like romilly, the rest are crap.
