I mean we haven't even decided if we are going to have number 3 ... but if we do, and if I had a boy I would love an Edward nicknamed Ted.

Everyone I have spoken has told me it's either too 'Posh' or too 'Old fashioned'.

I love it though. Do you?

Is your surname Edwards?!
I once went out with a boy called Stephen Stephenson. And he was only the 2nd of 10 children so goodness knows what the younger ones were called if they were that unoriginal with their 2nd Grin

Lizzylou · 03/02/2012 20:55

Love Edward, would be beyond stupid with our surname though, gutted.

Theas My great uncle was a Ted and he played rugby for his country !!!!!!!

bibbitybobbityhat · 03/02/2012 20:42

Yes ... but ... Garth!? Whataname!

You'll just have to have another baby, and it will have to be another boy Grin

reality DS is an Edward, he and DH used to go on excellent adventures Wink.

Theas18 · 03/02/2012 20:22

Another one here! Mine is 16 and definitely not a ted. Teds ok but it's a sweet little person name, not a hulking great rugby player name. However it's a really flexible name.

Edwin's cool.

PopcornBiscuit · 03/02/2012 20:16

Edwin is another alternative which I like, although it gets a mixed reaction on here.

rocket74 · 03/02/2012 20:14

I have an Edgar which we love :) despite lots of negative reactions in the beginning !!
Also like Ed and Ned as nn for later. Don't like Eddie though.

sonniboo · 03/02/2012 12:16

As someone who hasn't got an Edward (and is therefore unbiased Grin), I find the name quite dull.

But thankfully we all have different tastes Smile.

FebreezeYourJeans · 03/02/2012 11:30

I have a 4 year old Ted/Teddy. I was bullied into putting Edward on the birth certificate but have never actually shared that information with Ted, I LOVE it! Have received only positive comments (to my face) Grin

lolajane2009 · 03/02/2012 11:25

I have a son called Edward, who is 5 months old. Nn Teddy/ Little Ted since his great grandfather was nicknamed big ted.

PopcornBiscuit · 03/02/2012 09:31

Lovely classic name.

Ted isn't posh, it's just an ordinary nickname, but Teddy is (far too twee for the non-posh!)

SoozyWoozy · 03/02/2012 09:24

My bump is being called Baby Bear by my DCs so we thought Ted would be good for a DS if we have one! Teddy Bear LOL Grin I like Edward, love Ted, but really don't like Ed / Eddie (ex-boyfriends NN!!!!) so maybe we won't... Boys names are MUCH harder than girls!

Rhubarbgarden · 03/02/2012 08:14

I like it. I like Edgar even more.

SoFarWeAreEqual · 03/02/2012 08:10

I am going against the grain here; I really don't like it - I think it is staid and dull. I do love Ted though.

24joy · 02/02/2012 22:51

How about Woody? Love that name...

Thetokengirl · 02/02/2012 22:50

We have an Edward (age 7). Refuses to be called any shortened form of it (tried Ned, Ed and Ted). Don't know of any other Edwards in his school. I'd say go for it, but of course I'm biased! Grin

ReduceRecycleRegift · 02/02/2012 22:48

I love it, its one of those names that grows with the person because there are so many ways to use it. Edward if they want to be serious/professional, Ed, Ted, Teddy, Eddie if they want to be more informal

Fogie · 02/02/2012 22:46

Ds is only 'Edward' at hospital appointments.

Unfortunately Teddy is becoming increasingly popular. Ds is one of two in his class!
