God why are boy's names so hard? Something traditional and classic but not overused

Hi, I need some suggestions for boy's names. I have a DS1 George. If we were to have a DS2 I cannot think of any boy's names that are traditional and classic but not overused. I.e. not Thomas, William, James etc but then not something that says "I am trying too hard". I am pretty brave with my names (i.e. love Thaddeus, Balthazar, Ernest etc) but my husband is less so.

Any suggestions? So far I have:

Henry
Samuel
Christian
Felix
Magnus
Jasper?

I want something where he is not going to be one of 10 in a classroom but a name I am not going to feel ridiculous calling out in the supermarket.

Any and all suggestions welcome, no matter how obscure.

Thanks!

So many great choices! I've named 4 and would just say to try ignore concern that they will be one of 10 in their class - pick the one you want to say/hear/write/love/shout a million times (we always practised shouting them a few times - we almost went with Sam and Anna for the first 2 before realising we would sound like banana crazy fruit sellers shouting after them!).

It's like when you're at a great restaurant and the other person orders the dish you were craving. You'll never be as happy with something else.

Julian or Morgan??

changer22 · 31/01/2012 20:54

Henry. Love it. None in our primary school of 160. It fits with George too.

Love Magnus too.

Snowbeetle · 31/01/2012 15:42

Duncan?
Hugh?

I like lots of these ideas - boys names are so much harder to choose than girls aren't they?

:)

pilates · 31/01/2012 15:39

I like Henry and Edward but how about Joseph?

sailorsgal · 31/01/2012 14:55

Do you like Guy or Tristan, both very underused.

hormonalmum · 31/01/2012 13:22

Dougie / Douglas

deardear · 31/01/2012 13:15

Have friends with boys called Edward. One is in his twenties and known as Ed and the other is preschool and known as Ted which is different. I want something different for mine and we have so far narrowed it down to Harry which isn't different and also Isaac

hellokitty123 · 31/01/2012 13:02

From your list, OP, I'd say that Henry/Harry and Sam are very widely used already, so you might want to avoid these on that basis.

I like Magnus, Felix, Quentin, Benedict from those above or how about Lysander, Fabian or Winston?

rachel234 · 31/01/2012 11:42

Quentin
Marcus
Thaddeus
are my favourite boys names at the moment!

marshmallowpies · 31/01/2012 11:18

LottieJenkins · 31/01/2012 10:29

Wilfred???

Gavi · 31/01/2012 10:28

Marcus, Samuel and Alexander are gorgeous names that are cute on a baby and great on a grown man. Agree boys names are hard!!
