Pretty, cool & unusual girls' names

We have just found out that our third (and final) attempt at IVF was successful and that we are having a girl. Although I've had years to think of names, I am completely out of inspiration at the moment. Also, we live overseas so are not familiar with the trends in the UK.

I would really appreciate some suggestions. I am looking for a pretty name, but one that is also cool. And not in the Top 100.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I went to school with a Kinga, she moved from Hungary when she was little. I always assumed it was Hungarian.

No ideas from me, also looking for something cool and unusual for a girl.

Thanks redrubyshoes Smile
I heard it being used only once in all the years I lived in the UK and wondered why it's underused, given that it sounds pretty but not twee to my foreign ears Grin

redrubyshoes · 30/01/2012 14:38

Franca

Fiona is very underused and quite a pretty, classic name I think. I also love Tess.

quitcomplaining · 30/01/2012 14:35

Laila, Celeste, Elise???

Congratulations!

Francagoestohollywood · 30/01/2012 14:32

And I love the name Fiona (which we don't have in Italy), but - again - I am not sure how it's perceived in the Uk, I like the sound of it!

KWL51 · 30/01/2012 14:30

Quenelle meaning elnglish monarch!

ReneeVivien · 30/01/2012 14:30

Suggestions: yes to Tess and Hester as above, also Shifra, Ada, Arielle, Thea, Marnie, Tali, Devora, Sita.

Francagoestohollywood · 30/01/2012 14:30

Denj33 · 30/01/2012 14:24

There are 2 rivers, a tyger and a rainbow at my DS primary school :)

kerala · 30/01/2012 14:22

Tess - a brilliant name and weirdly underused so you won't have 5 in a class.
Hester
Augusta - everyone else hates this but I love it
Meriel

Denj33 · 30/01/2012 14:21

My DD LOVES her unusual name lol
The other 2 are a bit more "usual" tyler and Dominic (guess I ran out of imagination lol)

IamAnnaBanana · 30/01/2012 14:20

Most people think I'm joking lol but I heard some call their daughter quenelle in paris about 15 years ago and I loved it-it means little pancake in French!!!

IamAnnaBanana · 30/01/2012 14:13

I thought Quenelle was a sort of grain?? Is it not a sort of Quinoa thing?

IamAnnaBanana · 30/01/2012 14:11

Have I just seen Calypso as a suggestion? Why would anyone do that to a child/dog/goldfish?

MamaLazarou · 30/01/2012 14:11

My apologies, Denj33 - I thought you were joking.

IamAnnaBanana · 30/01/2012 14:09

Oh well there are going to be a lot of "unusual" names in the future (very Australiana/Americana)

GAPANTS - How on earth is Maggie SHORT for Magda ??

Denj33 · 30/01/2012 14:00

Aww I think my DD name is cute, and there aren't many about lol

MamaLazarou · 30/01/2012 13:45
