Names you wanted to use but were talked out of...

I really wanted to call a son Pelham. Some Georgette Heyer hero who caught my fancy when I was aged about 14.
And I had a yearning for a daughter called Bathsheba.
You?
I'm not talking credible or in with a chance. I'm talking about the lovely names you wanted but everyone were too dim to see their wonder.

Loralei. It just sings.

bibbitybobbityhat · 27/01/2012 22:27

Bernard is a wonderful name (rip Daddy).

I was talked out of Edward for my ds as there already is one in dh's extended family - not that me or dh had ever met him - but mil had her say.

2ndtimeblues · 27/01/2012 22:27

I remember wanting Violet but I think that may have become a bit on trend. If I'd had a third, that would have been a strong contender.

I had a hippy name phase with DDs 1 and 2 - I reeeally wanted to form combos of Rainbow, Star, Ocean, River, Storm and Blue Shock.

I was then calmer with DDs 3 and 4 but by DD5 I had a strange yearning for American, surnamey type names and I shortlisted Avery, Addison, Madison, Mackenzie and Kennedy. I still like them but they're just not very British are they!!

Luckily, I have an ultra conservative DH and he has kept all my daughters safe from my madness with steady top 150 names

I still kind of wish I'd picked Rainbow, Star and Avery as extra middle names though.

BenderBendingRodriguez · 27/01/2012 22:24

Another one who would have loved a little Fuschia (Groan) here.

Otherwise, Elsa. Like a fool I led off negotiations for DD's name with this, my favourite, and DH scoffed me down Angry It would sound brilliant with my surname too.

SensitivityChip · 27/01/2012 22:23

Rafferty. I'm serious, I really liked it. And Cassandra for a girl...

Kayzr · 27/01/2012 22:20

Dharma I love Bernard too. Always have done but FIL2B is Bernard.

HugeFurryWishingStool · 27/01/2012 22:18

You can tell us Dharma Grin

Archip17 · 27/01/2012 22:16

I know, Selks! I think Delphie as a nickname is gorgeous too. So sad I can't use it.

Haribojoe · 27/01/2012 22:16

DS1 and 2 have both been campaigning for Penelope as name for DC4, I really like it.
I love Perdita and think Perdy fir short would be beyond gorgeous but DH and boys are having none of it Sad

DharmaCeutical · 27/01/2012 22:14

Bernard. I love it. Imagine - a little Bernie and a serious grown-up Bernard.

Those we asked only thought of Manning or Matthews and sometimes <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=bernard+four+weddings+and+a+funeral&num=10&hl=en&safe=off&rlz=1C1CHMR_enGB331GB331&biw=1280&bih=685&tbm=isch&tbnid=-WGM4SsGJxZ4kM:&imgrefurl=www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2082636/David-Haigs-trademark-moustache-comes-new-theatre-role.html&docid=AITwixhB9osfxM&imgurl=i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2012/01/05/article-2082636-007014FB00000258-469_468x358.jpg&w=468&h=358&ei=DyEjT8rZGYmcOsK02cAI&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=836&vpy=342&dur=11402&hovh=196&hovw=257&tx=157&ty=135&sig=111610377253966086857&sqi=2&page=1&tbnh=163&tbnw=194&start=0&ndsp=17&ved=1t:429,r:4,s:0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">him

I have a truly marvellous name planned for imminent DS2 and I am telling NO bugger in advance.

2ndtimeblues · 27/01/2012 22:13

I liked Ursula but was told my baby wasn't a nun!

TheOddsAreEven · 27/01/2012 22:12

I wanted elsie, ethel, Edith nn edie or Ada for dd but people kept reminding me I was having a baby not a 90 year old :-( I still like all of them.
Wanted damien for ds but couldn't because of the omen but now having met ds I think it would be very apt.

MinnieBar · 27/01/2012 22:12

Oh I agree Tabitha is lovely. But? in actual real-life, plus we have a double-barrelled surname ? I think it would just have been too much.

Also: Xanthe. As above.

Haberdashery · 27/01/2012 22:12

I was talked out of Fuchsia, too. Also Ottilie and Clemency. Bloody DH.

2ndtimeblues · 27/01/2012 22:11

And off on a tangent, I really like the name Elinor but only when it's spelled this way.

OP posts:
LetsKateWin · 27/01/2012 22:10

Boyd - I used to have a soft spot for Boyd Hilton

Selks · 27/01/2012 22:10

Delphine is gorgeous, Archip.

2ndtimeblues · 27/01/2012 22:09

I also liked Flora.

OP posts:
Selks · 27/01/2012 22:08

Also Flora...really liked that, but nobody else in the family seemed to Sad

Selks · 27/01/2012 22:07

I wanted Arthur for DS. Was persuaded no. Sad. Still like it.

For DD I was quite keen on Maeve. Again persuaded no.

Archip17 · 27/01/2012 22:05

Delphine, Persephone, Romily, Rafferty... All vetoed by DH. I petitioned long and hard for Delphine, but he wasn't having it. Now DC1 is due in a week and we still can't agree. I think poor little mite will be nameless for weeks!

HugeFurryWishingStool · 27/01/2012 22:05

Oooh Fuchsia! Fuchsia Groan! There are some great names on this thread.

I suggested Alan for DS but nobody else liked it.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 27/01/2012 22:00

Cecily, Cecelia Celia Grin
Persephone Grin
Genevieve - still would have this Grin
Kitty - still would have this Grin

catinboots · 27/01/2012 22:00

I'm currently loving Margaret (Maggie) and David (Dave)

Both are fab retro but not predictable names.

Shame none of us can use either.

Fucking Tories GrinGrinGrin
