I really wanted to call a son Pelham. Some Georgette Heyer hero who caught my fancy when I was aged about 14.
And I had a yearning for a daughter called Bathsheba.
You?
I'm not talking credible or in with a chance. I'm talking about the lovely names you wanted but everyone were too dim to see their wonder.

Aeneas. DH said it was too much like "anus."

chocoroo · 28/01/2012 10:05

Loved Evadne, Harper and Darcy for DD but DP was having none of it. He also rejected Florence but that's more to do with how it would work with his surname.

To be fair I did reject his suggestion of Hieronymus for a boy. I love Rafferty and may put it on the list should we ever have another. I also rejected Genevieve but I love it now.

Charleymouse · 28/01/2012 09:32

Kizzy, love it.

CocoKev · 28/01/2012 09:08

DS might very well have been called Tuesday Elizabeth if he'd been a DD. I still love it so we might use it if we can...
I love Giacomo but was a bit too chicken to use it. Am always trying to convince pg friends what a great name it is though. Any takers?

staylucky · 28/01/2012 07:32

selks I'm using Arthur Smile a few folks have been Hmm but sod them, we love it.

On my list was Eric, Ernest, Kip all got faces.

normaleggy · 28/01/2012 01:02

I really wanted Mylo for a boy but was informed by my sil that it was the name of one of the Tweenies. She then called her daughter Bella!! The hypocrisy!
Exh hated it too though unfortunately. Although I do love ds's name, I think Mylo would have suited him too.

zipzap · 28/01/2012 00:41

Wanted Ptolemy or Inigo for ds1. They were also on my shortlist for ds2 along with jethro as his middle name but gotvetoed onall of them. :(

madliz · 28/01/2012 00:28

I really liked

Monty
Montgomery
Rupert
Maximillian
Rufus

DH and I didn't agree on a name until DS was actually born. At which point we chose none of them! :)
REALLY like Persephone (sp!) or Eugenie for a girl. Didn't choose those either!

Ineedacleaneriamalazyslattern · 27/01/2012 23:59

I wanted to call ds2 Xander. Mil was very vocal about her dislike of it and so was sil. Mil actually said the other day she would have made herself all not well having to call him it. Hmm
Now fast forward to last week sil had a baby and mil thinks IAtotallyU because I hate nephews name as much as she gates Xander. I won't say what the name us because it is a normal name but I just hate it to the point I haven't been able to say it yet. Oh and sil gave him the initials BJ and thinks nobody will ever notice. Confused

MustControlFistOfDeath · 27/01/2012 23:33

breatheslowly indeed yes. (Although it is pronounced Seh-ver-yn).
I believe my response was along the lines of ''no fucking way'' Smile

cazboldy · 27/01/2012 23:27

Seamus
Reuben
Rhys
Benjamin
Adam

we never disagreed over girl's names!

GrimblesMother · 27/01/2012 23:26

Like Quattro I wanted Orlando.

Or Jasper.

Sylvanus.

Spike.

Benji.

Clement, Ambrose, the list goes on.

And that's just the boys' names.

willowstar · 27/01/2012 23:24

if I had had a baby in my late teens it would have been called Amadeaus, no question!

LineRunner · 27/01/2012 23:23

Geno

Beamur · 27/01/2012 23:21

DP and I rather liked Calypso but decided against it, as it is a bit strange, the older kids were aghast at the idea and thought it sounded like a lolly. In the end DSD suggested DD's name and it suits her perfectly. I still think it's rather lovely though.

ChoccyJules · 27/01/2012 23:17

Tobias. Toby for short.

And Joy for a girl.

Wasn't allowed either of these!

Flora (margarine according to dh)
Clara (consumptive Victorian acc to dh)
Niamh (we are not Irish & already have a surname that you have to spell every time acc to dh) ditto Aine.

He was wrong of course, but the dds have ended up with pretty names anyway... Grin

breatheslowly · 27/01/2012 23:08

MustControl did you really mean Seweryn? A name with the word 'sewer' in it?

MelodyPondering · 27/01/2012 23:05

Arlo
Luca
Matteo
Fergus

Ds is Jacob. Took me ages to get over the disappointment of not having a Luca. Although, to be fair, he doesn't look like a Luca at all...

MustControlFistOfDeath · 27/01/2012 22:56

On my list were Kazimierz, Gabriel, Fabian and Rafal. All vetoed by DP.

He wanted Seweryn.

We went with Aleksander Smile

LineRunner · 27/01/2012 22:49

Edwin David Thomas is a bloody smart name.

MeDented · 27/01/2012 22:48

I wanted Elsie but was talked out of it, still wish I had stuck to my guns though dd says 'no thanks!' so perhaps just as well

breatheslowly · 27/01/2012 22:44

Aoife because no one would be able to spell it. Perdita because it means lost. Cordelia because apparently things don't end well for her in King Lear.

FunnysInTheGarden · 27/01/2012 22:31

Really love Fritha for a girl. But no girls, only boys and no more DC . I do have a Rafe though, full name Raphael. Also rather regret not giving either DC the name/middle name Edwin. It's my Dads middle name and he is 86, but on the plus side we did give both DS's their grandfathers names as middle names of David (should have been Dewi really) and Thomas
