So he's 17 months old now. I've had a moment of clarity and realised that Riley is a chivvy name. Poor boy. Sorry fella.

You like the name, you can spell the name Grin. Where's the problem?

I have seen both my daughters names bashed on here - not for being chavvy but for other reasons. It bothers me not one jot as they are clearly the two nicest girls names in the whole world and anyone who says otherwise is just deluded.

fishyonadishy · 27/01/2012 13:40

I don't think it's chavy.

As we're on the subject, I think names like Jaiden and Kai are a bit chavy, but I don't know why I think that. Why do I think that?

marge2 · 27/01/2012 13:38

yup - it's chavvy

wifey6 · 27/01/2012 13:38

I love the name...it's my DS name!!

awomenscorned · 27/01/2012 13:37

What is it mrs so we can judge

mrsruffallo · 27/01/2012 13:31

My dd's name is the chavviest of the chavvy according to posters on here. I like it though.

awomenscorned · 27/01/2012 13:29

Tssk, yep its chavvy.

lolajane2009 · 27/01/2012 13:07

I dont think Chav I think Twilight tbh.

DexterTheCat · 25/01/2012 17:53

I don't think Riley (with this spelling) is a chavvy name.

I would never have used it however as that was the name of our very grumpy siamese cat as a child which in turn had been named after my Dad's car (which he had been made to sell when I was born!!).

However if ever met a real life human Riley I'm sure I would start to associate it with them

zozzle · 25/01/2012 17:44

BTW - my daughters name has been around for thousands of years but apparently it's still slightly chav to a minority of MNers !?!

zozzle · 25/01/2012 17:41

I know a very middle class Riley (mum is a teacher) and I like it.

Agree with Chickens - unless Henrietta or Hugo then the majority on MN won't like it. I personally have an aversion to public school type names, and the current trend to out-posh each other.

Newtothisstuff · 25/01/2012 12:24

It's a lovely name... Was on my top 5 if my unborn was a boy !! Grin

ChickensGoMeh · 25/01/2012 12:12

If MN had its way, all children would be called Persephone and Cassius. Which would mean that those names would become common and dull. You can't win so don't even try Wink

elvisaintdead · 25/01/2012 12:05

according the MN masses many names seem to fall into the "chavvy" category, including my own name and at least 2 of my DC names, possibly 2 of the others (there is some disagreement on that thread about them).

Who gets to decide anyway - a name is a personal thing, one persons name hate is anothers love and vice versa. I think people who need to label things as chavvy or posh perhaps have some issues they need to address...

birdofthenorth · 25/01/2012 11:57

I really liked Riley when pg in 2010. I would now also class it as one of those names that became very popular very quickly and will feel dated soon. BUT you don't know this when you name someone necessarily, do you? All the mums of Traceys in the 1970s probably thought they'd stumbled on something hugely original!! And fwiw I currently work with two highly successful Traceys (worse in fact -a Tracy and a Traci!) so a faddy (I'm not saying the ch*v word!) name doesn't necessarily hold someone back.

Jenda · 25/01/2012 09:56

I think its a nice name.. but i love Ruby and apparently thats chavvy to now! I know someone who spells it Rylee, erugh!!!

SanctiMOANious · 24/01/2012 21:41

:-) am quite liking his name again, thanks!

OP posts:
MackerelOfFact · 24/01/2012 16:06

It's not really chavvy, it's quite American-sounding but I'm sure it suits your DS. Your DS will shape the name; the name won't shape him!

strawberrymivvi · 24/01/2012 16:00

I have an 11 year old who will apparently forever be labeled a chav because of their name. I love the name and I don't give a flying figgy toffee pudding what other people, with prejudiced views, may think.

It's a nice name :)

RobinSparkles · 24/01/2012 14:39

If you like the name, then who cares?

I have a chavvy name, I care not!

SanctiMOANious · 24/01/2012 14:37

Sorry, not sure what's happened to my typing today: *
at least

SanctiMOANious · 24/01/2012 14:36

I suppose I'm not really worried, just enlightened :-) I still like the name and at lease it's well spelled.

You're all right - who cares!

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 24/01/2012 13:25

Is this a thread about a thread?

If it's not, and you're genuinely worried then stop. Riley's lovely Grin

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 24/01/2012 13:24

At least you spelled it right. I know of a Rhyley.

Hassled · 24/01/2012 13:22

If you like it, what's the problem? He's not going to suffer for being called Riley - it's a nice name.
