I love it! I have a Margaret though she's Maggie most of the time.

Deafworm · 19/01/2012 15:35

Sorry it's my middle name and I hate it

Montsti · 19/01/2012 15:15

Really not to my taste - don't mind Maggie though....

Grockle · 19/01/2012 14:47

I like.

NewYearsRevolution · 19/01/2012 14:47

I love it. Strong, sensible and grown up sounding. I've seen some people say they think it sounds 'harsh', but personally I hate all the Milly/Molly/Poppy type sweet names, so maybe I go for harsh!

saturdayescape · 19/01/2012 14:44

Horrible, however like maggie/Peggy.

Hullygully · 19/01/2012 14:44

THATCHER

ScottOfTheArseAntics · 19/01/2012 14:43

Like it. My grandmother was a Margaret but everybody called her Madge.

QueenPodling · 19/01/2012 14:28

I love it. It's my mothers name though and she doesn't like it.

notso · 19/01/2012 14:25

DH's Nains are/were Magaret.
I love some of the nicknames and we have had them on short lists for our three DC I would love to use it for DC4 but I think with the film coming out, the Thatcher connection will be too prevalent.

GlueSticksEverywhere · 19/01/2012 14:11

I like Meg.

Indith · 19/01/2012 14:04

I've got one so I love it :). Mine gets called Daisy mostly, I call her Meg occasionaly.

Beamur · 19/01/2012 14:02

Don't like it at all. Just screams 'Thatcher' at me and not in a good way, it's not a name that sounds nice either - very harsh. Cute nn's tho.

diddl · 19/01/2012 13:58

Horrible.

Lonnie · 19/01/2012 12:48

I don't mind it but I see it and I immediately think Margarat Thatcher or Princess Margaret.

makinglemonade · 19/01/2012 12:36

We have lots of Margarets/maggies in our family. I think Peggy is a lovely nn and less used than Maggie.

miaowmix · 19/01/2012 12:18

I think it's hideous, sorry (partly Thatcher connotations, partly it's just plain ugly), as are the diminutives. But I love Margot, Marguerite, or Greta...

MrsJohnDeere · 19/01/2012 12:16

Awful. My mother's name.

Nice. Nn Greta.

Was my Nanny's name (grandma not carer)

mrsrvc · 19/01/2012 10:54

We are about to use it as a middle name we think, but largely as dh's granny is very poorly and may not see this one arrive tomorrow. We hadn't considered it before, but now we rather like it.

catinboots · 19/01/2012 09:21

I always thought Maggie May or Maggie Simpson.

For some weird reason my brain has never made the Thatcher connection. It has now Sad

DN has it as a middle name -she's 14 and HATES it (has always hated it). I like maggie though.

FetchezLaVache · 18/01/2012 22:57

Shudder- it's my middle name and I grew up in the 80s, so I can't possibly be objective!

joanofarchitrave · 18/01/2012 22:54

There's a Margaret in my family. I don't mind it, but am the wrong age to love it. I also much prefer Marguerite, though as always with French language names in English it can sound terrible depending on who's saying it. I would rather a million times either Juliet or Margot - of course the latter is v popular at the mo.
