Sounds like Royce - boys name - to me... Sorry... Might be more appropriate where you live though...

Just think it'll be a 'how do you spell that' name for the rest of your DD's life

JestersHat · 16/01/2012 20:00

I think it might be misheard as Lois.

If it is the Irish for Rose, it's probably pronounced Ro-ish. NEver heard it as a name in its own right.

crazynanna · 22/01/2012 00:32

I have a Lois...it does sound similar

kreecherlivesupstairs · 22/01/2012 07:42

It looks as if the end of Roisin has been left off to me.

Onion1968 · 22/01/2012 19:34

it looks to me like you made it up. Sorry.

lisaro · 23/01/2012 03:31

sounds made up.

AlpinePony · 23/01/2012 03:38

Agree with kreecher, looks like the diminutive of Roisin.

If you want to spell it correctly in Irish you will need a fada on the O and also to omit the I, leaving you with Rós, pronounced Rose, with more of an S sound than a Z sound.

Róisín would be the pet form of Rós, meaning '(sweet) little Rose'.

Róisín is spelled with the extra initial I because the slender -ín ending demands a slender vowel (i or e) before the consonant S. Rós on its own does not have that I.
