After going round in circles quite a lot, DH and I have come back to the name Duncan.

previous thread

It had come up before in random reading out of names from book and DH said no , I wasn't sure as I know a fairly unpleasnant 'Dunc'. (Although I don't see him much.)

It's come up again and he's now quite keen.

it would be Duncan Allan .

a) what do you think
b) any similar suggestions?

Cheers :)

How about Dominic?

TheCrunchUnderfoot · 17/01/2012 12:25

I know a few Duncans too. Hmm. It's a bit dated. Sorry kreecher.

TheCrunchUnderfoot · 17/01/2012 12:24

But presumably the chimp could be called Stan instead of having to be called Dunk.

I have two good friends called Gavin and Adrian though.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 17/01/2012 12:11

I am not going to leave this thread Grin.
Dunstan puts me in mind of a film that DD watches. It has a chimp in it.

How about Dunstan? Then you could have the possibility of Stan as a nn. Like that.

evamummy · 17/01/2012 11:58

Why would you shorten Duncan?

The one I know never gets called anything other than Duncan - it rolls off the tongue easily, doesn't it?

evamummy · 17/01/2012 11:55

I think you're ahead of the curve with Duncan and that it will rise in popularity as people look for more 'solid' names (after all the cutesy Alfie, Archie, Charlie type names). Find, solid, classic name imo!

PercyFilth · 17/01/2012 11:31

Duncan sounds like someone kicking an empty bucket Hmm

Graham?
Stuart?
Gordon?

kreecherlivesupstairs · 17/01/2012 11:18

I'm from London and dunky was definitiely a rubber johnny.

snapcruncher · 17/01/2012 09:03

Is that maybe a regional thing Labootin? Never ever heard of it up here.

I may be showing my considerable age but Dunky was a condom in my day ....

I love it. I think in Scotland it's not at all out of fashion.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 17/01/2012 07:28

I just think it is a good strong honest name. I know two Duncans, both are good, strong honest men.
Adrian for the lovely Mr Chiles.

snapcruncher · 17/01/2012 07:16

:) hello

why do you like Duncan so much?

ps Adrian? really?

kreecherlivesupstairs · 17/01/2012 06:51

And here I am. It is truly the BEST name for a boy in the world, closely followed by Adrain and Gavin.

nooka · 17/01/2012 06:45

One of my best friends at school was called Duncan. He did call himself Dunc, I guess it is the obvious nn. Still think it's a cool name though :)

lollystix · 16/01/2012 23:15

It was on my list - dh vetoed Douglas and we swithered on Duncan but went for something else. I know a 60 year old, 35 year old and 3 year old Duncan. Means brown skinned warrior I think or swarthy warrior. Good solid name in my view. The 35 yo Duncan was always called Duncey round my way.

HolofernesesHead · 16/01/2012 19:57

I like it v. much. If we were ever to have another dc (which we're not), it'd be a Duncan. Or an Elspeth if it were a girl.

RedRosie · 16/01/2012 19:55

I really like Duncan.

A nice strong name. I have a good friend called Duncan, and no-one ever shortens it.

tabulahrasa · 16/01/2012 19:52

I've never met a Duncan under 50...I assume they were at some point, lol, but I've never met one

Montsti · 16/01/2012 19:48

I'm afraid I'm not keen at all and find Dunc hideous..sorry!

Littlecherublegs · 16/01/2012 18:22

Not a massive fan of Duncan Im afraid, esp Dunc!

Prefer Douglas or even Donald! (Donnie!) Smile
