What does a 'Rufus' look like?

I know Rufus means red-headed, so would it be daft to name a child if you don't expect it to be red-headed?

Would you expect a rufus to be chunky, rough and tumble, or tall and gangly?

Help needed please!

(ps - not for me - so feel free to be rude about the name!)

The Rufus I know is : chunky, rough and tumble

He has wild curly hair, and is a bit of a devil child, I can also imagine him playing rugby when he's older due to his build and deterination to knock everything over Grin

GrimmaTheNome · 16/01/2012 16:01

Rufus should be red-haired and foxy. Rough and tumble but wiry, not chunky.

4madboys · 16/01/2012 15:59

well my ds4 was almost Rufus, i love the name! he is Rudi :)

but yes a cute, cheeky, little boy with blonde surfer type hair and probably boden clothes, that summs up my ds4 Grin

duchesse · 16/01/2012 15:43

Nothing wrong with ginger- my nephew is almost strawberry blonde in fact.

Yes, Boden OriginalJamie. I'm very middle class you know!

I also know a petite Rufus with brown hair and blue eyes.

Also, BettyBedlam (my dd's called Betty), my name (Rowan) means red haired (well the male version does anyway, I think the female version is just the tree). I don't think that sort of thing matters too much, although I struck Perdita and Persephone off my list because of the meaning of the former, and Greek myth around the latter.

Sparklingbrook · 15/01/2012 17:52

my first thought was a red setter. Sad

MoaningMinnieWhingesAgain · 15/01/2012 17:47

He would look like this

MarshaBrady · 15/01/2012 17:45

I imagine a Rufus to have brown messy-ish hair and possibly brown eyes.

shouldnotbehere · 15/01/2012 17:44

LOVE LOVE LOVE Rufus Sewell. I don't know any real life Rufus's. I don't mix in Rufus circles.

LiviaAugusta · 15/01/2012 17:37

Love the name Rufus but unfortunately I already know one and he's a black lab, otherwise it would definitely be on my favourites list for dc2.

OriginalJamie · 15/01/2012 16:22

Rufus Sewell - Phoar

phlossie - your son looks like a Rufus - surfy hair. possibly a Boden or John Lewis beach cover-up thingy? Like the name .

phlossie · 15/01/2012 16:18

Mine's blonde - click my name and see his picture! He's big, tall and chunky and very clever and gorgeous!

(I love Rufus Sewell, btw!)

guinealady · 15/01/2012 15:28

Rufus Sewell and/or Wainwright - yes please! It's a great name no matter what your hair colour.

nulgirl · 15/01/2012 14:40

My parent's dog is called rufus. Very cute face and gangly legs. .

StillSquiffy · 15/01/2012 14:38

Rough & tumble type with shaggy hair a bit too long, and posh manners. Public school but most definitely not the Eton type.

Love the '..us' type names. Gus, Angus, Cassius. All v cool IMO

pixiestix · 15/01/2012 14:26

Posh and a bit gangly.

scottishmummy · 15/01/2012 14:25

Quinoa munching parents
Boy with long hair, organic fair trade quirky but obvious clothes
All bit too right on

ellesabe · 15/01/2012 14:22

I think a Rufus needs a shaggy haircut

SoFarWeAreEqual · 15/01/2012 14:16

I love the name Rufus.

Rufus Sewell is just gorgeous and a miniature version of him would be no bad thing. Intelligent, good looking, talented - need I go on?

It most definitely does not say dog to me - Sam, Molly, Ella etc. are dogs' names IMO.

AmberLeaf · 15/01/2012 14:03

Bunny beat me to it!

I was going to go for an Irish wolfhound though.

susiedaisy · 15/01/2012 14:03
