Expecting DC 3 in July, so happy and excited, obviously need a name...but...

My taste in names goes against the mumsnet grain, i love the names deemed by you lot to be 'chavvy' (but not ridiculous!) My social group and family cant help me really as they dont like the names i do and try to steer me towards Williams and Elizabeths, (nothing wrong with either but very much not me)

I have an odd spec, that i doubt ill stick to but thought it might be fun to see if it throws up anything i like the sound of...

5 Letter name
Cant start with a K
Cant start with a J
Modern name (sounds better than chavtastic i think ;) )
The second letter needs to be A
The fourth letter needs to be E

And........GO Grin

I know a lovely little Gage, which is so close! You could sneak a silent letter in there, maybe?

Daven?

WineOhWhy · 18/01/2012 23:30

Not sure how I feel about the fact that my dd's name is on your list - didn't think it was that kind of name!!!

CheerfulYank · 17/01/2012 23:55

Blake?

Mason? Could spell it Masen if you wanted, I've seen that.

CheerfulYank · 17/01/2012 23:49

Megan, if you're swapping. :)

BabyDubsEverywhere · 17/01/2012 23:43

Well i was about to post my shortlis but Wines idea has got me thinking, swapping the A and the E would work, that would still seem balanced in my mind...then maybe i would have to have just one more after this baby so i could have two with the A then E and two with the E then A....hmm....

Okay, will be doing a quick search for names the 'new' way and will post my shortlist tomorrow...along with the alernataives that totally dont fit but will no doubt give you all a giggle that a mumsnetter of 5 years could possibly still be this chavtastic in name choice Grin

I know a family where the children are called Sophie, Toby and Chloe (adults now). All of their names therefore have 2 syllables with an "oh" sound for the first syllable and an "ee" sound for the second. From a distance, all of their names sound pretty much the same. Hence, when their mum used to holler up the stars for one of them to come down and do something, it just sounded like "Ohee" and they never knew who was being called. Of course they used this as an excuse to ignore the call (and whatever task it inevitably involved). "Oh, you were calling me? I thought you said Sophie" etc etc.
With your existing 2 names, the first syllable rhymes (ay sound) but the second does not (one is an "eh" sound and one is an "ee" sound). Hence they are sufficnetly different to avoid confusion. I think the danger you have is that if you stick with your a-e 2 syllable formation, the new name is going to sound too much like one or other of the existing names and cause confusion (eg I think from a distance Haven woudl sound too much like Kaden). Unless maybe you can find a name where the "a" sound is an "ah" rather than an "ay" (eg like in Brandon, although i appreciate that does not satisfy all the criteria).

I think you may therefore need to vary it a little - maybe changing the order of the a and e. For example, I think Tegan (pronounced Teegan I think) would work very well for a girl - it goes with the other names and is sufficently similar in length/letters etc that she should not feel left out!

I am over-thinking this for you, aren't I??

ceebeegeebies · 16/01/2012 20:39

I (more by chance than judgement) have named my 2 DS's with 'rules' - 3 syllable first name (with a u sound in it) followed by a 1-syllable middle name ending in 'ke' - totally get what the OP is trying to do Grin

Loving some of the names on here - I bet the OP is so glad she came on here as she has now got SO much choice Smile My personal fave is Dalek Grin

BroomForMyChin · 16/01/2012 20:13

I really want OP to come back and let us know the final name choice.

Mi4 · 16/01/2012 14:42

Grin haha another vote for Tazer, do hope that's on your shortlist OP!

talking of which, what have you got on your shortlist?
