What are the hip Londoners & jet set calling their 2012 babies?

Just wondering what the posh Londoners & jet setters are calling their new babies as these are always the names that trickle into the main stream in a few months. A friend of mine is a midwife in a private London hospital & she said the following are really gaining popularity

Boy

  • Arlo
-Otto -Casper

Girls
-Fleur
-Ottolie(never heard this before!!!)
-Florence

She said in the upper class William, Edward still used commonly for boys as middle names. Charlotte, Isabella, Poppy for girls

Can you add anymore up & coming names?I'm sure there are plenty of threads like this I'm just too lazy to look!!!) Find it fascinating & I love the way high society types get away with names the majority of us find somewhat bizarre!!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

rushelle if we have a dd she is highly likely to be Beryl as it is one of the few on my long list that my dh also loves.. I posted on here about it, and got hundreds of replies telling me I was mental.

I agree, Teacup. Florence is lovely, but the shortenings are all unattractive imo - Flo, Florri, Flossie..? But why shorten it at all?

MamaLaMoo · 20/01/2012 11:44

DD2 who arrived a few months ago is Elspeth Kitty.

Teacup23 · 20/01/2012 10:52

Florence is very pretty but it's the shortenings of it I'm not keen on: Flo and Florrie just don't seem so appealing.

pookamoo · 20/01/2012 10:09

:( DD2's name is on the OP's list. We have never heard of any or met any. We are not in London, and we're really not hip!

How do you think it happens? Names just kind of creep under the radar into people's subconscious?

KenDoddsDadsDog · 20/01/2012 07:04

Darnsouth Orla is already a top ten name in Ireland and Scotland. It's very traditional, but has started to be used for babies again in the way that we are using granny names in England. The explosion in England is due to Orla Kiely / Brady I reckon!
My parents didn't want me to name my DD Orla, as its a very obvious Catholic name in NI (we are) and they were worried about discrimination in England. Thankfully the world has moved on from their experiences.

Salami
Chorizo
Charcuterie
Galantine
Terrine
Saucisse
Bratwurst

Darnsarfupnorf · 20/01/2012 00:50

I have a 9 mo orla, id never heard of the name and neither had my family or friends but in the past 4 days ive heard of a new one every week! definetly think there will be an explosion of them in a year or so a la ruby, lexi and olivia :(

still love it though!

oh and the only problem so far RE the oral thing is that i phone autocorrect changes it to oral if your not extremely vigilant...red faces all round on more than a few occasions!

Tanso · 20/01/2012 00:32

Tansy

NotnOtter · 20/01/2012 00:26

my ds is a Valentines baby and i was sorely tempted but in the end thought it too crass!

DaPrincessBride · 19/01/2012 23:12

Heard a 'Rafferty' being called for the other day
Also met a baby called Iggy and another called Eugene
A little girl called Sonnet at a playgroup

:o

rushelle · 19/01/2012 23:01

I think the name Beryl needs to make a comeback- the world will be a better place with more Beryl's in it. All the Beryl's I know are all about 80 now and really dependable, no nonsense sort of women.

NigellasGuest · 19/01/2012 22:57

Julie! Such a pretty name!
Think Julie Christie, "Terry meets Julie", etc.etc.

And of course Jean - inspired of course by Jean Shrimpton.... just gorgeous.

When it comes to boys, keep it sensible - Tom, David, John.

SecondhandRose · 19/01/2012 22:55

My daughter's name was not common in 1998 nor in 1995 when I first wanted to use the name. Look at the stampede I caused with little Olivia!

southeastastra · 19/01/2012 22:46

i like raymond! some of the others are a little well known here for years (suburbs)

busymummy3 · 19/01/2012 22:44

I think Valentina is lovely too and first heard it about 15 years ago in Cyprus. My DD was due on feb 14 and althogh rather obvious immediately remembered this name, ended up being born 10th so was not to be.

shoobidoo · 19/01/2012 22:19

I've met a little Mabel and Quentin recently. Also a little Valentina (although her parents are from Spain), but I think it is a lovely name.

Heard the name Aramis being shouted in dulcet tones in Mcdos last week!!!

ReshapeWhileDamp · 19/01/2012 21:58

I met a one-year old Athena today. I don't even think her parents are Greek. Hmm

mousyMouse · 19/01/2012 21:57

dd would have been lysander if she were a boy...

TheGrandOldDuke · 19/01/2012 21:09

I am so ahead of the game, was desperate to call DS Lysander in 2009. DH was having none of it. Next time round I CHOOSE, and if it's a boy, Troilus or Acer. DH will hate them I predict!!!

Quodlibet · 19/01/2012 21:06

What about Danish names? Let's get some little Troels in the world...

narmada · 19/01/2012 20:58

My top tip for next name trend is Scandi names - pretty-sounding to English-speakers, slightly edgy, and fresh. Some of my faves, all vetoed by DP....

Girls:

Linnea
Alva
Ebba
Moa
Siri

Boys:

Elias
Erik
Emil
Albin
Leon
Linus

Although I feel that the following have only an outside chance of becoming popular Hmm: Hedda, Hedvig, Saga and Wilmer
