What are the hip Londoners & jet set calling their 2012 babies?

Just wondering what the posh Londoners & jet setters are calling their new babies as these are always the names that trickle into the main stream in a few months. A friend of mine is a midwife in a private London hospital & she said the following are really gaining popularity

Boy

  • Arlo
-Otto -Casper

Girls
-Fleur
-Ottolie(never heard this before!!!)
-Florence

She said in the upper class William, Edward still used commonly for boys as middle names. Charlotte, Isabella, Poppy for girls

Can you add anymore up & coming names?I'm sure there are plenty of threads like this I'm just too lazy to look!!!) Find it fascinating & I love the way high society types get away with names the majority of us find somewhat bizarre!!!

I know two Mardi's one is in her early 30s and the other is mid 60s. I like it. They are both Canadian, so maybe it is making a resurgence there.

Nostromo's a cool name.

thejoanwilder · 25/01/2012 03:09

LineRunner, I think I love you! What about Spunkmeyer Grin

I did actually suggest Ripley for our DD (due in March) but DH gave me look that said don't ever mention that again, and also I'm hiding the DVD player remote...

I was thinking more of the weight, even if it just went first class, Cuppa.

LineRunner do you think you'd need to do liquid nitrogen as special delivery?

PercyFilth · 22/01/2012 00:38

Po.

Are his siblings Jerry and Jordan?

MrsJoeDuffy · 22/01/2012 00:11

It's funny that Orla is becoming so popular here, it is bog standard at home. There were 5 in my class in primary school. With a variety of spellings :)

Trendster names....
This week I encountered a tiny girl called Ethel Rita June (the ultimate old lady name) and a boy names Po. As in the teletubby.

TitchVida · 21/01/2012 21:57

NotnOtter - is my DD and she wasn't born on the day :) I agree that would be too much. And I know it's strictly speaking a boy's name but I love it.

I work in the city and all the baby girls being born around here are getting old lady names lol The ones I've seen multiple times are : Florence (sorry :( ), Fleur , Estelle , Beatrix , Maud/Maudy/Maudry , Esther , Viola . Then there's also been a few weirder ones like Ottoline (Ottilie is lovely though) , Thalia and Warren (yes for a girl lol) . The boys seem to have gotten normal-ish names , Sam , Joe , Miles , Bob etc. I think it might be some kind of inverse trend? The chavs have all gone in for old posh names like Tristan so the 'posh' people are being trendy by giving their kids builders and granny names ?

SlinkingOutsideInFrocks · 21/01/2012 01:13

Orla has been popular for quite some time now (even down here in the southern hemisphere where I am) - if you don't follow baby name trends then you probably wouldn't be aware of that, but fashions seep into our subconscious, whether we're aware of it or not. You might think you're the first one to use/pick up on something, but often as not you're reacting to other influences.

I remember considering it for DC1 back in 2008, and ruling it out as the next 'Isla'.

LineRunner · 20/01/2012 20:24

Cuppa, you do realise the costs of postage and packing fall to you? Smile

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 20/01/2012 15:06

liquid nitrogen please, I'm sure I can put it good use once the ice cream's been consumed

sophe29 · 20/01/2012 14:55

No idea about hip london parents, but on the uber cool brighton coast recent names include:

Zephyr
Star
Sparkle
Silver
Hebe

There was someone in DD school Im sure was a type of car which I really think is a big no-no. I can't remember what it was but I did laugh at the time.

We have quite a few what I would have previously thought of as "old lady" names but now seem quite commonplace such as:

Edith
Elsie
Peggy
Esther

I was desperate to call DD lily but DH said no as it was too old. Wish I had now!

LineRunner · 20/01/2012 13:50

OK Cuppa! Mind you, mousyMouse said she's got it, but on the other hand she didn't prove it. Grin

Would you like melted, or encased in a tub of liquid nitrogen?

ivykaty44 · 20/01/2012 13:43

Garden4me

Patrick - shorten to Pat

Patricia - shortened to Pat

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 20/01/2012 13:38

LineRunner - that's eaaasy, they're all Aliens Characters...will PM you my address for the 99.

Sonotkylie · 20/01/2012 13:36

In my last 2 weeks of pregnancy I became convinced I was having a girl and determined she should be called Josephine. DH clearly (I see now) hated it but humoured me. We had a son. Disaster averted. BUT I still love the name - shortens well, elegant, works for an adult. And no others in the class...

TheGrandOldDuke · 20/01/2012 12:58

I don't think you need to be a of an origin to call your child a name from it personally. I love classical names because I studied Latin and Greek and they've made an impression on me.
