Just wondering what the posh Londoners & jet setters are calling their new babies as these are always the names that trickle into the main stream in a few months. A friend of mine is a midwife in a private London hospital & she said the following are really gaining popularity

Boy

  • Arlo
-Otto -Casper

Girls
-Fleur
-Ottolie(never heard this before!!!)
-Florence

She said in the upper class William, Edward still used commonly for boys as middle names. Charlotte, Isabella, Poppy for girls

Can you add anymore up & coming names?I'm sure there are plenty of threads like this I'm just too lazy to look!!!) Find it fascinating & I love the way high society types get away with names the majority of us find somewhat bizarre!!!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Beattie in French it's pronounced oh-tee-LEE, with the emphasis on the last syllable.

cakeismysaviour · 09/01/2012 20:04

I only know one 'hip' London couple and they have a toddler called Stanley and they now also have a new baby girl called Orla.

guinealady · 09/01/2012 20:01

I used to work in media, but a bit out of touch with it now...what people I knew were calling their kids in the last few years included:

Boys
Teddy
Oscar
Harry
Max
Sam

Girls
Belle
Rosie (a lot of Rosies as I seem to recall!)
Grace
Isabella

..those are all the ones I can remember!

KatyJ26 · 09/01/2012 19:50

this made me think of Ottilie-botterly, the well known butter!

BeattieBow · 09/01/2012 19:45

I always wonder whether the emphasis is in Ottilie. Is it on the till - O-TILL-ie or does it rhyme with Utterly? I prefer the former.

rachel234 · 09/01/2012 19:43

Or, in German, Ott-ee-lie (emphasis on ee).

billgrangersrisotto · 09/01/2012 19:43

I agree. Lovely!

rachel234 · 09/01/2012 19:42

Ott-ill-ie. Lovely name imo.

billgrangersrisotto · 09/01/2012 19:40

How do you pronounce ottilie?

moggle · 09/01/2012 19:30

I used to babysit an Ottilie and no-one had heard of the name back then. She was known as Lottie. Now 18 and an absolute stunner and lovely girl to boot, so I love the name!

vitaminC · 09/01/2012 19:06

Beattie, Clément, Quentin and Arthur have been top 10 names in France for the past 15 years or so! You've obviously been reading the Figaro birth announcements ;)

jaffacakehips · 09/01/2012 19:03

The 'hip' London friends i know have given there children quite normal names..

Poppy
Lola
Robin
Abigail
Gabriel
Clementine
Peter
Sam

BeattieBow · 09/01/2012 18:06

I have got Ottilie and Clemency on my list of girls names for current pregnancy. I'm not a hip Londoner!

I have Clement, Quentin, Arthur and Miles on my list of boys names too.

(I do have a history though of picking relatively unusual names and then finding out that every other bugger chosen the same names!).

my older dcs have 3 of the names mentioned in the OP.

upatdawn · 09/01/2012 18:06

I'm about as far away as you can get from a hip Londoner and at the mother and baby group we go to there is a Toby, Rupert, Martha, Marnie, and Clementine (not including my DC). The hipsters are going to have to get more creative now that their names have spread t'up north Wink

SwedishEdith · 09/01/2012 18:04

The Axel I know is not remotely hip.

Joan/Jonie
Jean
Joyce
Daphne
Audrey
Eileen

Peter
Philip
Andrew
John
Stephen

YummyMummybee · 09/01/2012 18:03

3boysgirlontheway-Do not worry about Florence over here-the cutesy names have only really caught on in Ireland the ammount of Millies, Daisy-Mai's etc is nuts this is why I come on here to get my inspiration lol... Olivia, Isabelle & Ava aren't going anywhere either.
I think it will be a couple of years before the cute name die off & then the Irish names are always going to be used too.
Keep the names coming girls- op yes it is Ottilie apparently it is becoming very popular with the in-crown!

DS's name is here but he is ten so I don't think it counts. I wish it wasn't getting so popular though; the abrieviation of his name is in the top 50 now Angry

OP, I'm guessing Ottolie is actually Ottilie - a very upper-class name here in France -and not at all heard of outside noble circles!

Axel is also popular here in France, but is more a working-class name.

3boys I'm also annoyed about Florence becoming popular, as it had been on my list for years, if I were to have another girl one day. I have a Maud and an Estelle, and I fear they too are about to take off Angry

I've come across a few baby boys called Elvis, and what I would call 'dad' names like Vincent. Strangely work on the kids of music industry bods and artists though...

Edie for girls seems to be a biggie on the hipster front. I do love it!
