I really love this name for a little girl, but the pronunciation has got me.
I was thinking Nuh-TAR-lia
I've also heard it pronounced Nuh-TA-lia though. Which do you use?

Ok that was a it mean. Nuh-taaar-lia sounds like Eastenders. Na-tah-lia could sound quite nice.

lottiegb · 10/01/2012 14:29

Nat AL iya

Being northern I make the middle a short and think it sounds nice and more even that way. If you go for a southern drawly 'ahh' sound it sounds like something from Eastenders.

Definitely Nat at the beginning, like Natalie, not Nut.

LaTristesse · 09/01/2012 20:13

I'd pronounce it Na- TAL- ia (hard a like cat), although the one I know, lovely little girl, goes by the nn Taly (pron. Tarly).

meaniebrown · 09/01/2012 01:55

Nuh-TAHL-ya (I'm american if it makes a difference)

TheSpreadingChestnutTree · 09/01/2012 00:22

Na tal ee a

rockinhippy · 09/01/2012 00:19

its our friends Italian GFs name & she pronounces it - Nat- ahhl-lee-yah

lurkinginthebackground · 09/01/2012 00:12

Nat-al-i-ah

Plonker · 08/01/2012 22:53

Na-tahl-ya

tahl like dahl
ya quite short, no real emphasis on the 'a'

Thumbwitch · 08/01/2012 22:47

Russian pronunciation of Tanya, NaTALia etc. would not be the same as the a in cat - it is slightly longer but nowhere near as long as 'ar'. It's almost an 'uh' sound, a cross between 'ah' and 'uh'.
The anglicisation of Tanya usually produces the 'a' as in cat sound, not as pretty to my ears, although some people still say Tarnya, which I like even less.(Apologies to any Tanyas who pronounce their name that way!)
I'm only using Tanya as an example because it's a more usual name than Natalia but has the same issues, IMO.

BillyBollyBandy · 08/01/2012 20:37

Na tal i a

BlueIvy · 08/01/2012 20:35

I think either pronunciation you have mentioned is perfectly acceptable, although I do like Nat-all-ia more than Nat-ah-lia.

I recently met a Nat-ay-lia, which confused me. Never heard that pronunciation.

patsdeadfrank · 08/01/2012 19:40

as in the bond girl in goldeneye.

PigletJohn · 08/01/2012 19:19

TALL like Torl? sounds very odd to me

yes I did used to speak some Russian.

JestersHat · 08/01/2012 18:17

Na-TALL-ya.

Na-TAHL-yah sounds affected.

LotusPalm · 08/01/2012 17:52

I think it depends on origin. The Russian way is na-TA-lia

EdithWeston · 08/01/2012 17:13

In the Russian way - Na-TAR-lia

ByTheWay1 · 08/01/2012 16:59

Nat aaaaahhhhhhlllll ya

spottyock · 08/01/2012 16:57

Nat-are-lia, definitely.

Nat -are-lia

GwendolineMaryLacey · 08/01/2012 16:27

I love it if it's Na-TAL-ia. Na-TAHL-ia makes my gums itch and completely changes the name to a not very nice one

elah11 · 08/01/2012 16:22

Na-TAH-lia, why would you put an r in there??

abitlikemollflanders · 08/01/2012 16:19

Na -TA-lia
as in cat.

PigletJohn · 08/01/2012 15:00

nat- AHH -l'ya

rootietootie · 08/01/2012 14:41

id pronounce it nah-tahl-ya, but am also saying it with a russian accent for some strange reason, but I really like it :)
