According to the charts, there were 49 Abels in 2010. Though, when I was doing my family tree, I noticed that, of all the popular names of the past, Abel is the only boys name (along with Fanny for a girl) which hadn't been revived. The popularity of Cain must surely be because of Cain Dingle in Emmerdale.

I like Abel, but have only been swayed on liking it after watching Sons of Anarchy.

I think before that I saw it as a bit boring and staid compared to the bad boy name of Cain.

Ha - was just about to come on and say not to spell it in any way but to pick something else instead.
