This name came to me in a moment of pregnancy induced madness and I really like it! I haven't put it forward to DP yet but it is likely to be instantly vetoed. When you think of the name do you think of the fastest milkman in the west before anything else? Should I shove it to the back of my mind and never let it surface again or is it due a comeback?

It's the machine which produces the winning premium bond numbers (Electronic Random Number Indicator Equipment).

Not Morecambe and Wise fans, although given Eric is our oldest it would be easy not to say their names together!

I think the name Ernest is fantastic!!!! I know a little Ernie and I think it is a real cool name. I think all the 'old' man names are good.

missmiss · 07/01/2012 21:00

Only if you put Ernest on the BC.

usualsuspect · 07/01/2012 20:59

I don't think a teenager would thank you for such an awful name

racingheart · 07/01/2012 20:44

I like it. But I love all those old man names - Wilf, Alfred, Arthur etc.

Not just Bennie Hill associations. There's The Importance of Being Ernest, and Hemingway, as you say. Great name.

ronx · 07/01/2012 20:44

Damn you all! That Benny Hill song is stuck in my brain. Grin

LaFilleSurLePont · 07/01/2012 20:42

It's horrid.

Mayvis · 07/01/2012 20:37

It's our top name if we ever have a boy. Really like it. Taught an Ernie and he was the nicest little lad (and very cool too).

danceswithyarn · 07/01/2012 20:09

Love it. Mum's Godfather's name (I never met my GPs on that side so Uncle Ernie had that role and I now consider it a family name)

Would love to use one day!

AWimbaWay · 07/01/2012 20:07

Are you a big Morecambe and Wise fan?

mrsshears · 07/01/2012 20:01

I absolutely love Ernie (Ernest on birth cert) and it is a front runner on our short list for DC2. If you love it as I do go for it. Everyone I've mentioned it to hasn't been keen either but it hasn't swayed me!

becclestown · 07/01/2012 18:02

We were more Hemingway and Shackleton inspired than Benny Hill. But his Granny can't seem to shake it.

becclestown · 07/01/2012 17:59

My DS, 5 months old now, is Ernie. Ernest Peter to be exact, so he can use his middle name if he doesn't love it like we do!

kumquatsarethelonelyfruit · 07/01/2012 17:36

NO

TeaOneSugar · 07/01/2012 17:34

battherat · 07/01/2012 17:22

The cricketer, Matthew Hoggard's son is called Ernie. I like it.

AThingInYourLife · 07/01/2012 17:21

Rubber Duckie, you're the one...

BigusBumus · 07/01/2012 17:21
