List of all boys born in December at my local hospital

Discovered the wonderful website of my local hospital that lists all the babies born by name, birthday, parents names. It's fabulous for making sure that I don't choose the most popular name in my town ... although from the list I am definitely in my own company! Opinions on the names or just a generalization of the list? I'm in America. Hugely interesting variation from the UK lists.

Dear god - it just looks like they can't spell. The misspellings of Aidan make me want to weep.

Fishpond · 04/01/2012 15:37

Should I include the entire 'K' list? It involves some true beauties Grin

Oops Mason should have been squished in there before Elijah on the second list.

Yank I completely agree with the Teen Mom = Bentley! Bleurgh.

I worked out our Top 10 boy names:

OFFICIAL top names not taking into account different spellings of the same name:

  1. William
  2. Mason
  3. Lucas
  4. Levi
  5. Elijah
  6. Landon
  7. Nolan
  8. Tyler
  9. Bentley
10. Brayden 10. Jackson (tie)

Counting different spellings of the same name as one name is different:

  1. William
  2. Jackson / Jaxon / Jaxen / Jaxson
  3. Aden / Adon / Aiden / Aidan / Aidyn
  4. Bentlee / Bentley
  5. Lucas / Lukus
  6. Brayden / Braiden
  7. Elijah
  8. Tyler

Wow. Most of those just look like a really bad hand of Scrabble.

AitchTwoOHoHoHo · 04/01/2012 03:04

i am LOVING Payzlei. [scottish]

CheerfulYank · 04/01/2012 03:00

Which would make sense; I know lots of little ones with those names. :)

CheerfulYank · 04/01/2012 02:58

Ewwww...Bentley. Stupid Teen Moms. I lay the blame squarely at their door. I'll see if I can find one for my nearest large hospital. I'm in a different area than Fishpond.

Ok. Back from Googling. They don't give a list of everyone but they do top 10 for 2011.

Girls are: Ava, Olivia, Sophia, Addison, Grace, Ella, Claire, Lily, Abigail, and Avery.

Boys are: Logan, Gavin, Mason, Owen, Carter, Ethan, Alexander, Evan, Jacob, and Liam.

Fishpond · 04/01/2012 00:58

Chaos I'm pretty sure it's pronounced Yalexis. The child in question looks very Caucasian, although I don't want to judge!

Betty my son's name is Sam. (Samuel Robert). No, darling, not all Americans have made up names. :o

Chynah · 03/01/2012 22:46

Can proudly (thankfully!!) say that apart from a more unusual (??) spelling of DSs name none of my childens names feature on either list.

SantasNutellaFairy · 03/01/2012 22:14

Seren- it's not on the mad list- the list is all the children born, not just the oddly named.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 03/01/2012 22:10

I wonder if it's a Spanish style pronunciation TSC as in Jose? iyswim?

Sad that my name - Sophie - is on the girls' list! It wasn't popular at all when I was born and now it's so popular that it even makes the mad list!

Happenstance · 03/01/2012 19:20

Thank-you for making me smile Grin

Fishpond · 03/01/2012 18:04

Yes parents can opt out. I think it's rare to do so though because they put up newborn stats and photos. It's an easy and quick way for out of town relatives to see the baby which is why I assume most people agree to it.

Shall I do a top 10 boys list for the whole year later? You'll be pleased to know the number 1 name is William! Grin

BettyBedlam · 03/01/2012 18:03

Surely not all Americans can have made up names?

BettyBedlam · 03/01/2012 18:02

OP, is it possible for parents to opt out of this list? I'm just wondering whether some parents have self selected to appear and others not. Surely the not all Americans can have made up names? Shock

breatheslowly · 03/01/2012 18:01

Our local hospital has these up in the reception for maternity. Very different list though.

LynetteScavo · 03/01/2012 17:58

I've never seen so many names I don't like in one place. Grin

Fishpond · 03/01/2012 17:54

I did find Payzlei rather Confused myself.

America - the land where otherwise perfectly normal adults think spelling their child's name as if it were a pharmaceutical is a capital idea.
