Very nice - a thumbs up from me.

oikopolis · 02/01/2012 20:10

I don't like it... means "sadness"
The sound is nice but I can't get past the meaning.

sonniebonnie · 02/01/2012 20:11

I too think triste (sadness in French) when I hear Tristan, I'm afraid.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/01/2012 20:13

Beautiful. I love the sound and the look of it on the page.

rachel1970 · 02/01/2012 20:15

The meaning (tristis = sadness in Latin) would put me off, sorry.

How about Quentin, Felix or Winston which have a similar feel?

LaFilleSurLePont · 02/01/2012 20:22

Love, love, love it. It is my dp's name though, but I loved it even before I met him.

ilianora · 02/01/2012 20:39

luckily i have no interest in the meaning :), i couldnt tell you what any of my friends names mean so i dont think it is that relevant in life thankfully. (my real name means 'sacred cow' but ive never been troubled by it! lol) Trist is 'sad' in welsh but the i is pronounced 'ee' so its a completely different sound thankfully. meaning aside... any other opinions?
Thanks for posting :)

I love it, and tanks to Stardust, i love Tristram too. Smile

mejon · 02/01/2012 20:48

My brother is Trystan and I've never associated the name with sadness - despite being Welsh speakers and knowing that 'trist' is Welsh for 'sad'. Is your name Welsh too ilianora - I'm trying to guess what your rl is!?

ilianora · 02/01/2012 20:53

hehe no its hebrew and its Leah. kinder websites give it slightly different meanings but ive always known it to be sacred cow unfortunately!

i had read somewhere that Tristan had welsh origins but never associated it with trist until this post. Like the alternative spelling for your brothers name, quite interesting that way :)
