We really like Eve...

We really would like to call our DD Eve but a close friend has just named her daughter Eva. Does anyone have any suggestions for short, strong girls names similar in some way to Eve?

Edith?

Whilst they are similar, if it was me I wouldn't be annoyed.
Love Eve, have 1 myself!

StealthPolarBear · 24/12/2011 08:35

Sorry, Amy came to mind when I had already typed "one" :o

StealthPolarBear · 24/12/2011 08:34

On;y other one I would go for that is similar is Anna, or maybe Amy

StealthPolarBear · 24/12/2011 08:34

I love Eve as a name, only reason we didn't use it was because it would seem that DD was named after a cousin which would then invite questions about why that one, why my side of the family etc.
Use Eve. Please. Eva has a different number of syllables, a different ending sound, it's a different name which just happens to be spelt almost the same.

DressingGownSnowQueen · 24/12/2011 08:32

I really wouldn't worry about it. Both of the names are quite popular the moment so it is not like anyone has copied anyone or anything like that.

I think Eve is lovely.

I'd ask, but if you love it, call her Eve.

Eve and Eva are not the same names. If Eve is the one you've set your heart on, then you should use it. Your friend doesn't have a right to expect you to do otherwise. She has picked a name for her child which is pretty popular - she can't imagine that she is the only one allowed to use it. When her child gets to school, there could well be another Eva in the class.

So I say go for the name you love, on the grounds that although similar to your friends name, it is not the same.

Many thanks.
I did tell them when they announced their daughters name (Eva) that I was thinking of Eve. I said Id go back to the drawing board... they didnt seem to indicate that I should do anything else, I got the impression that that was what they expected me to do.
Thanks again... I'll keep thinking and also get DH's opinion.
Merry Christmas!!!

Use it if you like it.

Traceymac2 · 23/12/2011 23:07

I think Anna will be the name of my current bump. I love Eve too but my 3 yr olds best friend is called Eve and I can only think of her when I say the name!

I think if you like Eve you should use it. It is a gorgeous name. Talk to your friend and see how she feels. When I was pregnant with dd2 both myself and my best friend were both set on Ella which I had announced first (by about 20 seconds!) as she had asked me what names I liked. She then said that was her first choice too. At the time after wracking my brains i felt nothing else seemed right. We now live in different countries which helps I suppose but I was of the opinion that I didn't own the name and we could live with two babies with the same names. In the end they went for Mia instead but I wouldn't have been annoyed if they had gone or the same name as us.

Ivy
Edie/Eadie

Iscreamtea · 23/12/2011 17:14

I would ask. Even if she says it's ok you'll probably be able to tell if it's not.

My suggestion is Ella.

GrimmaTheNome · 23/12/2011 17:10

If she's a pretty close friend, why don't you just ask her if she minds? I don't really see why you should feel the need to compromise in naming your DD just because she liked a similar name and gave birth first - we don't own our children's names.

PercyFilth · 23/12/2011 13:03

Evelyn is the answer! It also gives her some more options.

MerylStrop · 23/12/2011 12:33

Niamh?

ArtSingh · 23/12/2011 12:29

Yeah I think if you make a point that you are calling her by the full name Evelyn and then use Eve as a nice shortend version :)

AvadventKalendar · 23/12/2011 12:29

Ava is nice Xmas Grin

DeeOfTheNorthPole · 23/12/2011 12:27

Ava or Ida?

Eggwhisk · 23/12/2011 12:24

Why not go for something longer such as Evangeline or Evelyn and then use Eve for short. Both pretty names with good nn potential :-)

Confitdecanard · 23/12/2011 11:39

I know what you mean. Although it shouldn't be a problem I think I would feel uncomfortable going for a name so close to one chosen by a close friend. Have you tried nymbler? You can put in names you like and it gives you similar ideas. How about:
Lucy
Anna
Ada
Leah
Mia
