Edith or Florence?

Baby girl due in 11 weeks, we already have 3 boys and she is our final child.

We are torn between:
Florence Edith
Edith Florence

Florence is a family name. Just to add we are not in the UK we are in Ireland where neither name is very popular at the moment.

Thanks

I prefer Florence to Edith but as far as nn go I prefer Edie to Flo. Sorry that's not really much help.
Overall though I think they are both lovely names.

Edith definitely - have just put it on the shortlist for DC5.

AmandaWJ · 29/12/2011 16:00

We had Florence on our girls name short list for a while, the shortened Edie is nice but not so keen on Edith. Florence is lovely though, definitely my preferred choice :)

Having said that, my nan's name was Florence Irene and she chose to call herself Irene over Florence!

CurlyJims · 28/12/2011 22:15

Florence!

Both lovely but Edith is ultra lovely

3boysgirlontheway · 27/12/2011 10:31

Well after much discussion over Christmas, we have decided on Florence, not sure what to use as a middle name yet, but, the more I say the name out loud (with our surname) Florence works better. We also have the issue here in Ireland that not everyone says the "th" sound properly, and people saying E-dit rather than Edith would push me over the edge.

Thanks for all the opinions!

Edith. Urggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!! Truly awful and tantamount to child abuse.

Totally agree with Everlong

MudAndGlitter · 22/12/2011 16:36

Florence Edith. Biased as it was my great nans name.

3boysgirlontheway · 22/12/2011 16:36

Well I checked with our statistics office here in Ireland and there were 14 Florences born here last year and 10 Ediths, that didn't do much to help me!

Still leaning towards Edith.

Edith Florence. They're both nice, but Edith Florence is best. It flows better too.

Rhubarbgarden · 22/12/2011 16:14

Florence!

jellybeans · 20/12/2011 20:06

Edith

AnotherMincepie · 20/12/2011 19:01

I like both names, but think Florence Edith flows better. With Edith Florence it's a little awkward to go from "th" to "Fl".

Aloha31 · 20/12/2011 18:51

In Ireland too and called my 6mo Edith. There was another one born a day later and one a few weeks before!

I hadn't heard of any at all. But I don't care as I absolutely love the name! Go for it!

Edith. Florence is becoming very popular...going the way of Ruby and Lily (as mentioned by warmleatherette) in my opinion. Edith is fab!

guinealady · 20/12/2011 17:53

Florence was my favourite girl's name for years and years, as a favourite book when I was growing up was set in Florence, and my first trip there when I was 17 was magical.

It's not so much to my tastes now, but I still think it's lovely.

mathanxiety · 20/12/2011 17:43

Edith by a long shot. Florence sounds a bit stodgy-Victorian to me.

3isamagicnumber · 20/12/2011 17:40

I prefer Edith - and congrats on a girl! Xmas Smile
