Nicknames for Thea...?

Can anybody think of any? DH and I love the name Thea but would really like some nickname possibilities please? Quite like the idea of using a middle name to make a nickname e.g. Penelope Rose ... Posy. Any ideas...?! Thanks x

Short for, not sorry for!!

AlliKaneSon · 30/03/2020 23:33

My kids have quite short names anyway (Harri - sorry for Harrison- and Lara); their friends tend to just call them by the first syllable, ie Har and La (not a fan, but hey, that’s what kids do!).

Why not choose Alethea? Then you can use Thea. Really unusual yet classic. Lovely

Astronica · 29/03/2020 02:46

Teddy, Tiggy, Tess, Tessie, Tootie.

In Judy Garland's 'Meet Me In St Louis' the sisters are called Rose, Esther (Judy Garland), Agnes and Tootie. We don't hear Tootie's real name in the film....

thea and rose = toes
sheila and brit = shit
sharron and artimus = shart
penelope and isabella = penis
bridget and estella = breast
grace and imogen = grim

I should think this particular Thea has a nickname by now... this is a zombie thread from 2011 so she'll be nine this year Grin

villamariavintrapp · 28/03/2020 22:22

Ted?

Jossina · 28/03/2020 20:51

Thea already IS a nickname.

MikeUniformMike · 28/03/2020 20:48

Thea will be The (rhymes with Fee).
Why are you thinking of a nn for such a short name?

ElenaLiza · 28/03/2020 19:53

Maybe try Tia or Te (pronunciation: Tay)

molschambers · 22/12/2011 03:40

What lisaro said.

lisaro · 22/12/2011 03:19

I don't understand people picking nicknames even before a baby is born, Surely a nickname should come about as a natural evolution. Or by actions, ect. Pre deciding it seems a bit false.

TruthSweet · 21/12/2011 19:51

Our Thea is actually an Alethea but she is also know as Theapodolopodus so not really a dimutive!

We pron. it Thee-ah.

Bluestocking · 20/12/2011 17:54

The Thea in my family is often Theeeee too, Lockets!

guinealady · 20/12/2011 17:49

I like the idea of Thea as a nn for Dorothea...or with that name you could also call her Dottie. Think Dottie is gorgeous for a little girl but with the option of giving her a more grown-up name like Thea when she's older. Not one I'm going to use as it won't go with the surname, but still think it's lovely.

frankietwospots · 20/12/2011 17:39

Love the name Thea as it is. Gorgeous.

WineOhWhy · 20/12/2011 17:24

Eh? Thea is a nickname (for Theadora, Dorothea etc), although i think it has evolved into a name in its own right. Trying to find a nickname for what is already a nickname is odd though.

If you like nicknames, call her Theadora or Dorothea, and then Thea can be the nickname?

therewasalittlegirl · 20/12/2011 17:18

Thank you all. Would pronounce it Thee-ah. I get what those of you are saying about letting a nickname evolve... I guess we just normally go for names with nickname potential, and I wondered if there were any for Thea that we hadn't thought of. Thank you for lots of ideas, think we'll see what happens if we decide to go with it!

Bit contrived to choose a nickname, IMO - it should be something that comes naturally.

I'm intrigued as to how you are pronouncing Thea? I pronounce it Tay-a, as in the short version of the German Dorothea (do-ro-tay-a) and we are considering it as a name for DD when she is born, but I am worried that everyone is going to pronounce it Thee-a. Irrelevant to your post but was just wondering - sorry!

butterfliesinmytummy · 20/12/2011 11:40

NNs should evolve naturally, this is the whole point of them - never heard of anyone deliberately choosing a nn. I don't know many kids whose nicknames are related to their given names - my kids' nicknames are Twinkle and Fuzzy....

Don't worry about a nickname - chose a name you both love, use it and chances are your dd will acquire a nickname naturally. Both my girls have nicknames that are totally unrelated to their names (or indeed any name) but which are well suited to their personalities.

LaFilleSurLePont · 20/12/2011 10:49

Surely it's short enough?
