Final decision - thumbs up or thumbs down?

Right, thumbs up or thumbs down to our final choices of names (two for each gender)

Pasha Theodore Alex
Leonard Theodore Phoenix (Lenny)

Saffron Eleanor Hero
Violet Eleanor Calypso

Other DCs are Tobias, Jago, Sorrell and Asa.

I wouldn't be too bothered about that, personally. They won't be young children for very long. They are individuals and they will be doing their own things soon enough.

People need to remember they are naming an adult as well as a child.

percy, I think it's because they have the same number of sylables and end in the sam letter. It's not that they are too similar but I think they might sound a bit matchy (as if we had deliberately chosen them to match DCs). Also if you shout them (like you would up the stairs) they are quite hard to tell apart so could be quite confusing for young children.

ChocolatEtVin I'm not getting why you think (a) Theo and Jago and (b) Asa and Hera are too similar. They have nothing in common apart from the final letter in both cases.

How do you say "Asa", OP? I would said it "Ay-sa", no "r" sound. I have a GGG-father called Asa, so it's an archetypal grandfather name to me.

I like your names, I live oop North and Asa would always be considered to be a boys name.
Calypso was on my 'long' list, but it was a bit too left field for us and the older kids hated it - thought it sounded like an ice lolly, but I still think it has a certain charm. Prefer Violet to Saffron as a first name though.

I prefer Len, but do see Pasha as a boys name.

I prefer Violet of the two for a girl.

I don't know any children named Pasha (or Asa) but would have no problem accepting these as boys' names if I met a boy with either name. I also know a male Morgan ans all the Sascha/Sashas I know are male. I also know a female Charlie and James. So, what I'm saying, is that as soon as we meet a person we accept his/her name, whatever it is.

I prefer Leonard but think Pasha works better with your sibset.

Definitely Violet as Sorrell and Saffron are too similar.

Violet is lovely. Not keen on Pasha and hate Saffron (sounds chavvy to me). Leonard is okay.

What about Axel as a first name?

Also, when it comes to Pasha, I don't think it's an issue that it could be deemed girly. My name (well the abriviation of my name that I'm know by) is a very popular boy's name at the moment. When I arrive for meeting etc everyone expects a guy and it truely doesn't bother me and never has.

Yes, but going through it every time he is introduced to someone? Like I said, it's not you who has to deal with it. Please bear that in mind whichever you go with.

I'm sure my parents thought a name that rhymed would be fine. It wasn't.

I've only known Asa as a girl's name (pronounced Azer) but I know it can be used for a boy.

I do like the idea of Sasha as a nn for a boy (i.e. from Alexander), but think it would be confusing as so many people would expect Sasha to be a girl - I'd personally try to avoid Alex because although I love Alexander I once knew an Alex who was not a very nice person, and it's put me off the name a bit.

Not so sure about Pasha, though, because of the club (although that's spelt Pacha isn't it?)

Can't have Theodore as a first name as Theo is too close to Jago and I despise Ted/Teddy. nooka, DH is a quarter Russian so it wouldn't be too out of place and I think his mum would appreciate there being some link to his heritage. As for the comments about it being unfair giving a child a girly name, I think it's unlikely that after meeting a male Pasha you would go on thinking they were a girl!

Are you in the UK? If you are, it doesn't matter whether it is a girls name or not but it matters whether most people will assume it is.

Please remember it is not you who will have to deal with it on a daily basis for your entire life.

Theodore Alex is fabulous though. Maybe Theodore Alex Pasha if you really like the name?

I think that Asa is a strong male name. I don't know why but it feels much more masculine than Pasha. Perhaps just because it's much more familiar. I guess Old Testament names are much more commonly used in the UK than Russian diminutives (I am of course assuming that the OP's family doesn't have a strong Russian connection). The other reason I'm not keen is that like sleepywombat I've heard 'pash' used as slang, although more for someone you have a crush on than for snogging (the urban dictionary has lots of quite gross 'pash' related terms, but they do seem quite Aussie in origin).

Don't much like Leonard and calypso is weird. It the rest are great.

I automatically think of Pasha as a boys name. Especially after Strictly. Can't see that being an issue.

Personally I love Pasha and think it's a strong name. Tbh if I met a female Asa or Pasha I would ignorantly think that their parents didn't know what they were on about when choosing a name and to me it would be the same as meeting a female Alan.
