I don't like names that can be shortened because if I choose a name, that's what I want them to have, not some cutesy diminutive.

My name can be shortened and spelled a billion different ways and it is an inconvenience. I can never remember if I've applied for something under my full name or shortened version, or who knows me as what. I am mostly known as the shortened version and I wish I wasn't.

Don't particularly like it, agree with kerala that it is an ugly sounding word, a bit 'harsh' IYKWIM.

Out of interest why don't people like names that can't be shortened? I have quite a long name and although it doesn't have a 'common' Xmas Grin short version I like it when people do shorten it.

I never liked the sound of the name at all, but met a gorgeous little baby Erin a few months ago and it changed my mind as she was so cute!

Erin is a beautiful name. DD1 is Erin and out of all the girls I have had the pleasure of naming, it is still my favourite. it cannot be shortened either, which is lovely.

Loathe would be abit strong but I think its inexplicably popular. Not an attractive sound at all quite an ugly sounding word. There are millions of nicer names.

I once met a girl called Erin Ireland! True story!

Presumably she had had people say to her many many times 'you know your name means Ireland Ireland?' but she was a very nice and chilled out person so I imagine she had dealt with all the jokes...

Like it - I imagine all Erins to be beautiful. I would be really disappointed to meet an ugly one.

LOVE it. It was on our list (although had a DS), and is also my lovely DSis name. She's an Erin Kathleen.

Lovely name, but DSs first (and I hope last!) gf is (a very lovely!) erin so may be a tad biased!

Not keen but only because I've yet to meet an Erin I've liked. It is a nice name, but meeting unpleansant folk can put you off thier name I think.

Same with Ryan, never met a Ryan I've liked. Xmas Confused

Love it, love it, love it, always have done, and it's DD1's name. She's 10 and loves it too.

Easy to spell, can't be shortened, uncommon but not "odd", sounds pretty (to me).

DH is Irish, so the meaning "Ireland" was an added bonus (although it is rarely used in Ireland).

She's Erin Ann. I first thought about Erin Eve, but that sounded rubbish.

If you're going to do it be careful with the middle name - I know an Erin India which sounds like the name an airline to me (but still isn't as bad as the poor child I know called Kitty Hope which is surely either a cat charity or the name of a porn star).

DP's friend has daughters called Erin and Evie!

I like Erin. An old friend went out with one. She was very beautiful and successful.

I don't like it personally but I like the fact that isn't already overused and makes a nice change from all the Evies/Ellas round here.

Love it, however its my sister in laws name so probably wouldn't use it, that paired with the fact that my favorite name ever is Evie, and i really can't have children called Erin and Evie Grin
