Oscar, Theo, Tobias, Hugo - but which one to go for?!

Absolutely love all these names but which one to go for?! It's harder for us to choose boys names as we already have two, so our favourites are used - but we love all these names equally!

How about Rufus?? I wanted Rufus for DS2 (our Hugo)

It means 'Red haired one'. DH vetoed it.

Guess what colour hair DS2 has? Xmas Angry

Petraperfect · 16/12/2011 00:46

Tobias, ex h vetoed for ds but I love it.

makemineacherrybrandy · 16/12/2011 00:43

Oscar is lovely.

SamMiguel · 16/12/2011 00:33

We have Theo and I know only one other in rl who is several years older. (in the north btw)

qwerty123 · 16/12/2011 00:29

Yes I am wondering if the film will make a difference - I must watch it to see what it's all about!

We have a scrummy 21 month old Hugo (or Hugs for short)

Think it might become more popular due to the martin Scorcese film out now Xmas Sad

TabloidTart · 12/12/2011 19:09

Hugo. Love it. Was our choice for DD2, had she been a boy. And instead... she's a Beatrice.

emmyloo2 · 12/12/2011 12:12

Theodore or Hugo. Both are fabulous. Oscar is a bit over-done. I don't like Tobias.

timetoask · 12/12/2011 11:31

Hugo.
All your names are brilliant, but I haven't met many Hugos.

4madboys · 12/12/2011 11:29

i have a theo, he is a theodore and is 12! and i have an oscar who is 9, so i think they are both fab names Grin

ThinkingAboutBoden · 12/12/2011 11:15

Gosh! I am struggling with brackets etc today am I not?!!

Ignore all that rubbish-ness, I promise I am normal so my opinion can be counted! :)

ThinkingAboutBoden · 12/12/2011 11:14

Ha ha - I clearly am SO mumsnet (take that as you will! Xmas Smile)

I have an Oscar and a Beatrice! q123 and MA - we clearly do have v.similar taste as I also had Clementine on my list (husband veto'ed as he couldn't get the "phlegm-my" sounding Clemmie out of his head! Grrrr - he is an idiot with no taste obviously! He also couldn't see beyond the old lady-ness of Kitty which was my first choice - told you, no taste that man! :)

So, obviously, I like Oscar but v.good friend has a Theo(dore) which I also love and had on list way back in the day.......

yellowflowers · 12/12/2011 00:39

Hugo

AwayinaKayzr · 11/12/2011 12:57

I love Tobias and Hugo

lottiegb · 11/12/2011 12:56

I like Tobias best, traditional, dignified but a bit mysterious, with a well-known nn. Oscar is ok. Theo is either very rare or very fashionable and I'd find it odd on its own, not as an abbreviation. I've offered views on Hugo before, I see it as self-consciously patrician in a slightly jokey way; I've never heard of one that hadn't been to private school and, agree with plughole, it doesn't suggest intelligence, more the joker friend who got his job only through contacts. That does seem to be changing now though and there are going to be lots soon, broadening the association enormously.

ThatsNotSantasBabyBelly · 11/12/2011 10:38

I know 2 Theo's and a Toby in the West Mids.

I like Theodore with nn Dory, DH doesn't. Ted as nn lovely too.

I had no idea Theo was very popular. I am making a presumption that this is in the South East?

That's incredible Maggie as I have considered Beatrice Clementine but yet to run this as a middle name to DH. We certainly do have the same taste in names! X

Bubbaloo · 10/12/2011 22:49

Definately Oscar for me,as I already have one. He's also the only Oscar in his school.
Dc3 is probably going to be Tobias,so that gets my vote tooXmas Smile

MaggieAtwood · 10/12/2011 22:23

We went with Clementine in the end but Beatrice/Beatrix was also in the running. We obviously have pretty similar taste x.

Rhubarbgarden · 10/12/2011 20:55

Hugo gets my vote. Tobias is ok though somehow sounds a little affected. Oscar and Theo are very very popular so I would avoid those personally.

bluebump · 10/12/2011 20:48

I have a Theo and only know of about 4 others in our town (1 older, 3 younger - DS is 3) but i'm not really bothered that. Funnily enough I had Hugo on my list the whole way through my pregnancy but my DP refused it. My brother is an Oscar and my cousin a Tobias so all good names you have there Grin
