It seems this topic board has loads of MN's 'marmite' names. Loads of threads along the lines off, 'DC would of been' or 'Names you Love.'.

...so I was just wondering, which names don't you like and why?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I hate K names, Kyle, kayden, Kai (personal top worst name) kieron etc, I can't think of a K name I like. Other than Katherine/Kate.

I'd say Victoria was a classic girls name. Both my kids have reasonably unpopular names, DD very much so but not completely outlandish, DS is probably more popular in Scotland.

exoticfruits · 10/12/2011 07:54

I love the names that I expect come under 'solid=dull' description.

inmysparetime · 10/12/2011 07:46

I'm doing well so far, only one of the names in my family mentioned. Clearly our names are either nice or obscureGrin.
I agree that stripper names for children are awful (Lola or Tallulah)
There are "naughty names" such as Luke and Ollie, associations with several mischievous children.
Any kind of drink, especially alcoholic, makes people think that's what you were drinking at conception:
Bailey
Chardonnay
Carling
Foster

Me too. Hey ho.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 10/12/2011 07:11

ThatsNotSantasBabyBelly · 10/12/2011 07:00

Me and DD's mentioned. Ah well.

CheerfulYank · 10/12/2011 04:21

I've been named too, and ds. Dh is Andrew...does anyone hate that? We could have a full house :)

Oh, and I loathe the name 'Seren'. It reminds me of gypsies, and not in a good way.

heroinahalfshell · 09/12/2011 23:16

I honestly think it is something to do with the names I grew up with. Familiarity breeds contempt...??!!!

heroinahalfshell · 09/12/2011 23:15

Blush sorry hunny Blush

xxhunnyxx · 09/12/2011 23:12

Haha my name is on the above list. It's ok I wont take offence, I see your point.

heroinahalfshell · 09/12/2011 23:06

GreenEyedMumster · 09/12/2011 22:36

Caitlin is pronounced Kate-lyn

If you called your child Cáitlín it would be a different matter.

I HATE made up names, or pretentious names. I like proper names, although I think you can be a little more creative with girls.

I don't like names like Tierney/Tiana/Leighton/Kyle/Reece etc etc, those names belong to children who's parents have appeared on Jeremy Kyle.

The worst name I ever heard on this forum was Octavia. yuk yuk yuk!

I think it's particularly cruel giving boys stupid names, when they are 15 they're just gonna get ripped to pieces by their mates, a guy at work has named his baby boy Sonnet. As in a poem! WTF? That's just child abuse!
Boys need proper names! Joe/Jack/Tom. Yes they might be boring but boys don't want a fancy name.

My fave girl's name at the mo is Eloise. So pretty but not very common.
As somebody who has a pretty popular name and never being the only one, I'd like my daughter to have a name which isn't overly used but not weird.

picnicbasketcase · 09/12/2011 22:22

Bingo! All of my family's names are on here now.

chickydoo · 09/12/2011 22:09

A few more hates.
Lottie
Jessica
Rosie
Anything with Rose in, Lilly Rose etc
Octavia (I know a poor child saddled with this monstrosity)
Gemma
Emma
Sean (whatever spelling)
Sam
Tom
Ben
Last 3 done to death around here

Quite like
Michala
Rachel
Sacha (for boy or girl)
Berenice
Henrietta
Hermione (even with Harry Potter)

Pascha (a bit too strictly, but still like it, if you happen to be Russian)
Darius
Hector
Monty
Edward, Ed, Eddie, Teddy

phlossie · 09/12/2011 20:20

And virtue names - Patience, Prudence, Charity, Joy... too much to live up to.

phlossie · 09/12/2011 20:19

I loathe Hayden/Jayden/Brayden/Kayden - what's that about?

Also loathe 50s popular names like Colin, Keith, Linda, Norman, Nigel. And I don't get how anyone could hold a beautiful newborn and call him Peter, Steven, Micheal, John, James or any other boring name like that. Or her Joyce, Margot, Susan...

vickyj52 · 09/12/2011 20:10

Also once met a Kilara which I found a bit weird!

vickyj52 · 09/12/2011 20:08

Really do not like Claudia, Gabby\Gabriella, savannah, Amelie and Milly/ Molly type names.
Don't like Sebastian not sure why and always loved William, Oliver etc but find them a bit dull due to over use.

I really don't like the current trend of 'cutesy' names ending in -ie (Alfie, Archie, Bertie, Ellie, Evie etc.). I prefer more solid names personally Smile.

PrincessScrumpy · 09/12/2011 14:15

MamaLazarou · 09/12/2011 14:09
