Female twins, too hormonal to choose!

Right. I have the world's most boring name and always promised myself if I had a girl she would have something much more individual. And now I'm having two. And the problem is I think hormones are making me err on the side of exotic princesses when (here's hoping) both young ladies will stand up in front of a boardroom one day and should be taken seriously...so have reined back on the Scarletts and Anastasias and Guineveres and trying to have names with a pedigree that are still pretty.

Surname is one syllable, beginning with a 'w'. I would like the middle name to be something to do with our family (Beatrice or Olivia) or Scottish (Iona, Isla etc, they can take away my freedom and all that...) OR (DP thinks I'm mad) the boat we conceived on which was Liberty, or my childhood pets were Lucy and Freya.

Names were hard enough with DS and he's a boy and there's only one, so please help. DP is of the 'what's wrong with Emma/Claire/Sophie/Kate/Pippa/insert every current name which would make them one of 10 in the classroom).

Being twins, don't want them starting with the same letter, both ending in 'y' or 'ie' or, worst, completely rhyming. Trisyllabic works well with the surname, but a lot of them like Annabel are a bit popular. DP likes it when they can be shortened to a boys' name (issues ;) )

So...

Polly
Sally
Francesca (Frankie for short)
Charlotte (boring, but like Charlie/Lottie)
Harriet (Harry)
Penelope (Penny)
Estella (Stella/Ellie)
Is everyone going to be called Philippa/Pippa?

I also like: Nancy, Kitty, Belinda (Billie), Carmel, Serena, Dulcie, Elizabeth (if shortened to Betsy/Lizzie/Eliza), Florence (Flora, Florrie/Floss) and Darcey.

Nice problem to have though :)Thank you ladies x

Harriet and Florence
Elizabeth and Harriet
Elizabeth and Florence

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/12/2011 18:59

Love Harriet but not Harry - Hatty would be my nn of choice and indeed is what I wanted to call dd2 but dp wouldn't let me.
You don't hear Sally v often and I think it's quite cute but obvs couldn't use with Harriet.

Harriet and Charlotte v nice together.

I like all your middle names and don't think you should hold back on Guinevere and Anastasia, they are both extremely imposing and individual as adult names.

Was also going to suggest Genevieve, maybe Winifred?

Like: Polly, Francesca, Harriet, Estella / Estelle, Pippa is nice but really dislike Philip, Kitty is great, Florence, Elizabeth (but you can't control other people shortening to Liz).

Ooo this is my favourite thread ever. My thread! All about girls names - MY girls names :D

Thank you for participating!

Now, are we not worried Pippa and Kate will be noms de jour? I really like the former, but...

And my other problem is what the initials spell so eg if I did Olivia as a middle name it would be ...OW. So cow, how etc.

Carrie is also a family surname from way back, so am thinking now:

Sally Beatrice W...
Florence (Flora for short) Carrie W...

I still really love Harriet, but can't have that with Sally...but then if I have Polly, I can't have Florrie because of half rhyming...oo tis a minefield!

Ailsa as a Scottish one?

Florence and Elizabeth

Other ideas

Constance
Genevieve
Esther
Teresa nn Tessa/Tess
Katherine nn Kate, Katie etc

VivaLeBeaver · 05/12/2011 16:25

I like Francesca and Harriet. I don't think that Philippa is going to be too popular and like that as well.

Other 3 syllable names I like are Meredith and Natasha. I also like Juliet, Nancy and Florence.

stinkingbishop · 05/12/2011 16:13

mistletoe yes, for a long time, working names in my head were Harriet and Sally. Then I realised we had a bit of a Harry meet Sally situation ;) Thank GOD I realised that beforehand!

Harriet and Olivia so Harry and Ollie?

leftmymistletoeatthedoor · 05/12/2011 15:25

I love elizabeth, dulcie, harriet (LOVE) and sally.

Why not do the scottish thing as a first name? Lots of pretty scots/irish names around...
Isla
Iona
Elspeth (elsie)
Ailish
Mairead
Flora

I think scarlett is a very pretty name though and not odd or over the top at all.

stinkingbishop · 05/12/2011 15:25

Flora! Yeees! She can be like Flora McDonald, speeding Bonnie Prince Charlie to Skye! howlong you are a genius.

Out of your list I would prefer:

  • Nancy and Eliza (Elizabeth), or;
  • Harriet and Florence (shortened to Flora which I think is quite scottish?)
How exciting choosing for two girls!
Queenkongmerrilyonhigh · 05/12/2011 15:17

I like Francesca and Estella. But love Penelope, it's so classy for future board meetings but Penny and Nelly are both very cute nn for little girls. DS would have been Penelope had he been a girl.

I also love Clara. Clara and Penelope would be gorgeous.

Ooh, two names to chose - you lucky thing!
