What about Idris?

or Aurelian or something else?

Have rather unexpectedly found myself probably (cord was a bit in the way) expecting another boy... I was absolutely convinced it was a girl so didn't have a boys name at the ready.

We already have a Corin and a Lucian

And most of the boys names I like sound like the names of my other boys

No most people get Corin straight away - it is phonetic - some people pronounce Lucian as Loo-shan (and he is a loo-see-an) but on the whole they get it right. My daughters names are unusual too but completely phonetic so I do wonder sometimes how people can get it wrong.

I think Idris is fab - also a fan of Cadair Idris. I think Aurelian sounds too much like the others.

I worked with some software called Idrisi (Ih-driss-ee). But that isn't remotely close to right; it's something to do with where the D goes, maybe, or maybe it's the middle ih... (all muddled up again).

I'd probably get your other boys' names wrong, too. My cousin is a girl called Corrinne (Kuh-rin) & I bet her pronounciation is nothing like your Corin (or is it?). I worked for a Lucian (Loo-see-ahn), so I guess you're used to correcting people anyway.

Oh no, maybe it's the D, which syllable that goes with... like you say ID riss not Ih-Driss, but whatever it is, I can't get it right (the shame).

There are other nice Welsh names, no? I quite like Rodrig (Alain, Gareth...)

No, there's something about the short I, there's more than one short I sound, I keep saying the wrong one and DS keeps getting X trying to correct me. I think he has given up on me, now.

I know a Rhidian actually and that is a wonderful name. He is a very fabulous creature - really very eccentric and a wonderful namesake - the problem with it is that that terrible albino looking chap who is a singer also springs to mind [shudders] - did he win an ex factor, something like that but he give me the willies Blush

ooh I see it is a star as well - I would certainly consider that as a middle name - we have erred on the side of flamboyance for middle names!

I thought it would be a much more mixed reception of this name - feel quite happy that everyone seems so positive about it

My DH absolutely loves it

Arcturus (iirc) is the latin for Arthur.

Idris is absolutely lovely.

Frederick (this is because I had a gerbil called Freddy) and Caspar are too commonly used for my taste

Love Idris. Ds might have been Idris as the first (of many) mountain I climbed was % Cadair Idris.

Yes Mrs Ravelstein that was my thinking - I have a weakness for nice latin names you see and it would all be a bit themey if I could get away with it - alos I have a lot of children and when I call them I constantly mix then up (sometimes with the dog too Blush) so too much alike you lead me to even more confusion.

Difficult because I do like a flowery name in a boy but one cannot condemn ones sons to poofy names eh? Grin

I think Idris sort of bridges the gap between unusual but useuable and nice on a grown man

i shall stop fanning myself long enough to say i think it's a really nice strong straightforward name that goes well with your other 2 but is different enough to be distinct from them (whereas the 'an at the end of aurelian alongside the 'in' of corin and and the 'an' of lucian might make them all sound a bit themey as a group? does that make any sense?)

Could be either Welsh or Arabic (Gaddafi deposed King Idris).

Yes it is just Id-riss

To be honest I am so so in shock that it is a boy I can barely think straight so if I can get a name in mind I can start to get my head around it/

I know Aurelian seems a bit of a scary name in a way - much as I love it I do feel it is a lot to live up to iykwim - you never know though do you Lucian seemed a bit like that until he came out all fabulous and completely able to live up to such a name.

I do like Magnus, Dh doesn't and i like Rufus too
