Here is our shortlist for DC2. We do not know if we are having a boy or girl(though I'm quite certain it's a boy, but we'll see!)

Middle names are family names - Margaret, after my sister, and Jack after FIL

Hugh (DH favourite though won't be able to use the middle name as all I can think of is 'Hugh Jackman'. DH doesn't like Hugo)
Samuel Jack
Angus Jack
Lewis Jack [my favourite (after my ultimate favourite Joseph, which DH veoted]
Louis Jack
Heath Jack

Camille Margaret
Charlotte Margaret (has always been my favourite girls name though I'm having doubts given how popular it is)
Alice Margaret
Louisa Margaret (DH's favourite, I also am quite keen)
Brigitte Margaret

Other suggestions are VERY welcome!

I think you need more than one syllable with middle name Jack - Heath/Hugh Jack sounds odd, for instance. I don't think Angus or Louis go well with Jack, so perhaps Samuel or Lewis for boys' name.

I like all your girls' names apart from Brigitte (I do like Bridget, but Brigitte, if pronounced in a German sort of way, I'm not so keen on). Camille is very pretty.

littledean · 29/11/2011 12:57

Side note - was unsure on the best spelling of Brigette - I am definitely one for traditional spellings but wasn't sure what the tradition was on this name. Am happy with Bridget if you think this is more known

I like Samuel Jack and Louis Jack out of your boys names,
For girls, Camille Margaret, Alice Margaret and Louisa Margaret are my favourites.

minipie · 29/11/2011 13:49

I like Samuel Jack, Angus Jack and Louis Jack.

Agree Hugh and Heath don't go so well with Jack as a mn.

Are you French at all? Camille and Brigitte I would think of as French names. Camilla and Bridget would be the English equivalent.

I really like Louisa Margaret, Alice Margaret and Camille/Camilla Margaret. Louisa is my favourite. I do quite like Charlotte Margaret and Bridget Margaret, but not sure about having both first and middle names ending with a "t" sound.

NewsClippings · 29/11/2011 14:02

Samuel Jack or Louisa Margaret.

manicinsomniac · 29/11/2011 14:32

I wouldn't let middle names affect you choosing a first name you love. If you have a son he would be known as Hugh. Maybe once or twice a year someone might ask him, out of idle curiousity, what his middle name is. If you have him christened it will come up and I guess he'll write it on exam papers etc when he is older. Really don't think a middle name is a big deal in life.

But my favourites from your list are Charlotte and Lewis

CrotchFlakes · 29/11/2011 14:34

Alice or Bridget
Samuel or Angus

shouldnotbehere · 29/11/2011 17:32

I love all your boys names, except for Heath. I don't like this name. My favourite is Hugh.

I love all your girls names except for Camille and Brigitte, which I'm not so keen on. Louisa is my favourite.

WowOoo · 29/11/2011 17:40

Hugh or Samuel and Alice or Bridgitte for me.

whatstheetiquette · 29/11/2011 17:48

Alice and Louisa are really nice names, think Alice is better with the middle name. Camille is a bit fussy for me and I think that Charlotte and Margaret are a bit much together.

Boys names - like Jack as a first name and actually think that it is a little odd as a middle name with some of your choices. Hugh Jack and Heath Jack are both 1 syllable - 1 syllable and don't feel right to me.

What about Alexander Jack

or Matthew Jack.

Louisa is gorgeous! Not so keen on the other girls names...

And I think I like Angus best from the boy list.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 29/11/2011 20:30

Love Alice and Louisa.
Samuel (shame about Joseph!)

MordechaiVanunu · 29/11/2011 23:29

Louisa or Hugh. Both very lovely. Classic and underused.

Lewis (to me) a snotty nosed skin headed liitle boy, Louis much better but may get called Lewis anyway.

Don't fret about what they sound like with middle names that will be a twice in a lifetime non problem.

Choose a first name you love, use the family names as middle names, everyone happy.

serin · 29/11/2011 23:45

Angus or Hugh

Camille for a girl.

pictish · 29/11/2011 23:47

Angus and Louisa.

hester · 30/11/2011 00:01

Samuel and Louisa.

LoopyLoopsWoopDeWoops · 30/11/2011 00:04

Hugh not sure
Samuel Jack ok
Angus Jack not sure
Lewis Jack - no, Lewises are usually naughty
Louis Jack yes
Heath Jack not sure

Camille Margaret not sure
Charlotte Margaret like but not with Margaret, too rhymy
Alice Margaret LOVE
Louisa Margaret LOVE
Brigitte Margaret ok

lottiegb · 30/11/2011 06:54

Lewis or Louis, Camille or Louisa. Love Hugh, maybe he could have two middle names? Is Heath really a name? Only heard of Heath Ledger, otherwise makes me think 'moor, thicket, bog, common' etc.

DigOfTheChristmasTreeStump · 30/11/2011 07:42

Hugh - nice
Samuel Jack - too ordinary
Angus Jack - love
Lewis Jack - nice v commonplace though
Louis Jack - only is you pronounce looey
Heath Jack - no

Camille Margaret - dont like Camille
Charlotte Margaret - beware charlotte the harlot, kids can be cruel
Alice Margaret - pretty
Louisa- bit meh
Brigitte Margaret - not for me

I will offer Megan as a variant on Margaret, Juliet and Caroline, plus Patrick and Hamish.

mathanxiety · 30/11/2011 15:01

Hugh Jack -- is a bit like Huge Jass (Simpson's joke)
Samuel Jack -- very nice
Angus Jack -- very nice
Lewis Jack -- doesn't really flow
Louis Jack -- nice
Heath Jack -- sounds a bit clunky - like two nouns stuck together as opposed to a name.

I think you should have a third name between the first name and Jack. Jack is just a very short and sharp middle name on its own. I think as the names stand, Samuel, Angus and Louis are the best with Jack.

Camille Margaret -- lovely
Charlotte Margaret -- I would go with Charlotte Margot (French pronunciation)
Alice Margaret -- this was a name I had in mind for DD3 so a thumbs up from me. Really lovely.
Louisa Margaret LOVE yet another name I had in mind for DD3 weirdly enough.
Brigitte Margaret -- Yet again, a name I was thinking of for DD3, but I was thinking either Brigid or Bridget. Brigitte is lovely (would you pronounce it as in Brigitte Bardot? - very nice imo))

FirstNoelle · 30/11/2011 15:04

Samuel or Louis (Loo-ee) are my favourites. Heath or other one-syllable names sound odd with Jack.

I love Camille Margaret. Louisa and Alice are both lovely, too. Charlotte is nice, but a bit plain. Not keen on Brigitte.

Camerondiazepam · 30/11/2011 15:47

Love Camille. Also love Brijheet but not Brigheeta. But she would spend her whole life saying "actually it's Brijheet (or Brigheeta)".

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/11/2011 17:09

Samuel or Louisa.

Hugh Jack and Heath Jack don't sound right. I like Charlotte but it sounds odd with Margaret, as does Brigitte.

ThoseClementineShoes · 30/11/2011 20:03

Love Camille Margaret.

Agree some of your names are a bit punchy with Jack. What about adding an extra name if you love them?

Hugh Anthony Jack
Heath William Jack

Or something.
