What are everyone's thoughts on Finn? I don't want a really common name but I'm struggling to find a boys name we both like. Thanks :) xx

Lovely name. I know 6 Finns, and they are variations of Finlay, Finely, Finnian and Fintin.

I love the name, but fear it has gone the way of Archie/Alfie. You could almost name the year the child was born.

What about Torin?

Yes, it has become VERY trendy/faddy in our area - there are at least five Finns under the age of 5. A few years ago, I didn't know a single one!

I think Quinn would make a lovely alternative.

I don't mind it but do find it a bit faddy...I have no problem with popular names (Oliver/Thomas/William etc..) but just find this a bit "of the moment" a la Archie/Alfie...

If you love it then go for it though as we all have different tastes! Also unless you go for something very different you always have a chance of there being a few kids with the same name in the same class etc...lots of people on here seem to suggest names such as Alexander/Benjamin/Nicholas/James/Matthew as not being uber-popular but I know more than I know Olivers/Thomases/Harry's/Williams so you never know...

What about Flynn?

NewsClippings · 29/11/2011 09:23

Not keen, sorry.

I don't know how relevant a popular name is once they leave school and enter a more mixed age group anyway.

I only know of 2 Finlay's in my dcs whole school. I don't know how many there are in the younger age ranges.

If you love a name I think popularity is irrelevant.

FWIW it is the more unusual names that are duplicated in my dcs classes.

I know a Finn, a Finlay, a Finton and a Fynn. All called Finn.

But I have an Amelia - popular clearly doesn't bother me Smile

There are alternative spellings - I know it doesn't change pronunciation but it does make a difference on a register. eg Fion or Fionn

Clareabella16 · 28/11/2011 22:49

I know Finley is but wasn't sure about Finn... Hmmm :)

It's a really common boys name at the moment.
