Milena

After Milena Jesenska (sp), Kafka's confident and generally amazing woman. I love it but:

Is it too pretentious given that we are not in any way Czech?

Will everyone call her Milly (which sounds truly ridiculous with our surname)?

I had a great aunt Milena (Italian.) Mila is the Russian nickname too, I think, thats very pretty.

lordsugarslovechild · 25/11/2011 21:57

I like Milena. Deffo was a consideration for DC3. He's a boy tho.

Camerondiazepam · 25/11/2011 19:52

Sorry I was talking about the pronunciation of melaena not milena!
Confusing. It is lovely but I wouldnt use it for that reason.

Staverton · 25/11/2011 01:23

No it's not a mee sound first

SlinkingOutsideInSocks · 25/11/2011 01:15

I think it's lovely pronounced the way smalltownshame describes.

DD's nn is Lena (pn Ley-na).

Staverton · 25/11/2011 01:03

It's actually spelt melaena and pronounced very similarly to milena so no way would j use it, sorry

snowshoes · 25/11/2011 01:00

bloody poo was my first thought too, sorry!

used2bhappy · 24/11/2011 21:46

and people keep commenting how lovely the name is :)

used2bhappy · 24/11/2011 21:44

Flowerface · 24/11/2011 17:42

Right, maybe I will start a new thread with all the names I like and the things wrong with them in it. Sigh. I thought we had it sorted...

I love Milena, Lena is a great nickname. Don't let tenuous associations put you off, I'd go for it :)

Flowerface · 24/11/2011 17:00

I really loved it, but think the Malaena has put me off... The number of people who said that was what they immediately thought of is a bit worrying! I don't care so much about the IUD as that is quite different, and if you take brand names too seriously you can't call your children ANYthing!

I like it too, very similar to the lovely MelinaGrin

MrsHuxtable · 24/11/2011 12:46

I love Milena.

Have you ever heard of The Milena Poems? They're so touching.

Desmond Graham, the poet, published a collections of poems about his daughter Milena, pretty much starting at conception. It's a bit besides the point, I know, I just had to say it when I read the name Milena. Smile

AlpinePony · 24/11/2011 12:41

I thought it was hebrew?

Same name as the girl from the running man?

SardineQueen · 24/11/2011 12:33

I know a couple of little Marlenes and no-one pronounces them like Maarlene from only fools and horses!

belgo · 24/11/2011 12:28

Helena?

Flowerface · 24/11/2011 12:27

Marlene is OK if you say it the German way Mar-lay-na, but not so much the English.

Bloody hell, this malaena has ruined everything! Though I am glad I asked...

I like Miranda but DH hates it for some reason.
