Which do you prefer? We're american--is Barnaby a bit too british? What kind of person do you imagine a caspar/barnaby to be?
Thanks!

btw, the middle name will be Lloyd

Only just back on this thread and saw your response meaniebrown re:Barney. I live in Africa and it seems to be very popular here which surprised me as my nephews and nieces in the UK have never seen it etc...so you have answered my question in that it is old and we are just way behind the times here! DS is only 2 and 10-15 years ago kids characters were the last thing on my mind so I suppose I just missed it!

Ooh definitely Barnaby of those two. It's in our top 3! Caspar is nice too but definitely conjours up the friendly ghost who falls in love with a young Christina Ricci!

reallacecurtains · 24/11/2011 10:03

a vote for Caspar from me, though I also know a lovely Barnaby

serin · 23/11/2011 23:12

Caspar, Sorry but I don't like Barnaby at all and to me it sounds more American than British. Next doors horrid dog is Barnaby.

Dutchie77 · 23/11/2011 20:36

Caspar. Been thinking about that. My brother is called Jasper, which I like too.

Dirtydishesmakemesad · 23/11/2011 20:19

I like Barnaby better than Casper.

Rhubarbgarden · 23/11/2011 20:18

Caspar. Barnaby is awful.

Neither can be said properly without having a pronounced lisp, so do be sure to cultivate one.

NewsClippings · 22/11/2011 18:03

Caspar

TheMitfordsMaid · 22/11/2011 17:54

My nephew is called "bob bob" by his 2 year old brother and "Barn" at school.

meaniebrown · 22/11/2011 17:44

Barney the big purple dinosaur was big like ten-fifteen years ago or so. I just googled it and the show has been on hiatus for a little over two years. Yo Gabba Gabba seems to be the big thing now. (so I guess I'll have to skip on the names Brobee and Muno) ;)
If we go with Barnaby, I'd probably (occasionally) call him Barnsy or something like that as a nickname--never Barney. I sometimes call Alistair, "Ali." My husband never nicknames though. Caspar might get nicknamed to Cass, which of course over here, rhymes with ass. But then again, Alistair (who just turned two) might pronounce Barnaby as "Barbie" and he could get stuck with that as a nickname. (I have an uncle Stuart who has been called Tooey all his life because that was how my father pronounced it.)
I just don't know what to do!

I love Caspar (yes I think of the ghost..). Don't like Barney and Barnaby is ok. Isn't Barney (the big purple thing) huge in the US?

LaFilleSurLePont · 22/11/2011 15:59

Caspar, definitely Caspar. I love Caspar, but detest Barnaby. It's an awful name.

fredandginger · 22/11/2011 10:07

Barnaby Lloyd is fabulous, a clear winner

NoHunIntended · 22/11/2011 00:05

:) Do you know if you are carrying a singleton? Anyway, things happen, so who knows!

MelinaM · 21/11/2011 23:55

Both lovely, but prefer Barnaby.

meaniebrown · 21/11/2011 23:49

haha, I thought of the whole ABC thing, but my husband has made it clear that he's drawing the line at two.

NoHunIntended · 21/11/2011 23:26

Both great. Go for Barnaby this time, Caspar next, so your boys' initials spell ABC.
P.S. I have a brother called Barnaby, the name has served him well.

planetpotty · 21/11/2011 22:41

Barnaby is nice.

Casper is definitely a friendly ghost. YY to jasper instead Wink

superdragonmama · 21/11/2011 22:39

can only think of the GHOST - sorry!

superdragonmama · 21/11/2011 22:38

Like Barnaby, not keen on Casper (can only think of the

Really like Barnaby Lloyd

I am Scottish

Love Alistair, my Scottish dad's name Smile

meaniebrown · 21/11/2011 22:35

Yes, we live in the states, in the rural south in fact. Our other son is Alistair, a name which most people around here have never heard of. I can't tell you how often I've been asked how we "came up with it." My main concern about Barnaby is that it may be too erm, aspirational. Caspar doesn't seem to have that sort of baggage--most people I imagine just think of the ghost. (which doesn't bother me at all)
