Is Eve really that popular?

We love the name Evelyn for or new little one who we have recently found out is a girl.

I keep reading on here that eve and evie are really popular but is it a regional thing?

I live on the outskirts of a rather rough area and have never heard anyone with eve or any variants. None in the local school either (was quizzing teachers on friday) although they have 12 jades apparantly in a small primary school.

Everyone that I have mentioned eve or evelyn to, family, friends, neighbours etc. have ask said it is unusual and no one has said my neice, aunt, cousin etc. is called that. Well except an elderly neighbour who told me it was her grand mothers name.

Is it possible that eve just isn't that popular in my area or will I be seeing them every where next year.

I adore the name but being one of 6 rebeccas when I was in school has put me of popular names. Perhaps there is a nickname for evelyn that isn't eve and I've not thought of it.

Please excuse spelling by the way, typing on phone and can't quite get the hang of this swype keyboard.

I know several under 4, some Eve, some Evelyn but called Evie, one pronounced Evva-lin.

Dd1 is eve and I only know of 1 other who is on a different school. So not as common as it appears I think!

I think Eve is lovely, I'm def using it as a 2nd name, also considering it as a first but popularity of Eva/Evie puts me off a bit. I'm a teacher and know only one but I'm guessing there'll be lots under 5 looking at stats. I haven't met a young Evelyn before.

I'm in the north east. Know two Eva's and Evie and and Eve. There are none in DDs nursery class and she is 2.
No Evelyns though!

I lovelovelove Eve.

The thought that it would get all pink-pushchair'd and turned into Evie though, urgh.

I don't associate Evelyn with Eve-Evie at all. (maybe because my Gran was Evelyn and it was Ev-lyn not Eve-lyn so the sound was completely different. ) I don't reckon though that Evelyn would become Evie.

hi, can't find the actual ons link which tells you all baby names and regional variations for 2010, but this is top 100 list so Evie was at number 10 and I think has been top 10 for a few years. I have a 3 year old and I would say Evie is one of the names I hear most frequently (along with Lily, Amelia and Isabel/la). Not really encountered any children just called Eve, which I think is much nicer and more elegant sounding (though would probably end up getting called Evie at least while little). Eva and Ava also quite popular.
In summary I think Evie is a pretty name but would not pick it if you want to be different! Not personally keen on Evelyn but it is less popular than just Evie. Good luck!
