Lord of the Rings / Harry Potter - related names

Anyway, Theoden was a king in LOTR.. (slightly more acceptable than a name associated with a hobbit i feel.. possibly?! lol! ) It's also taken from the old anglo saxon noun meaning king/leader of the people I believe. I also like the fact that it has a v masculine and strong sound, (imo.) I already have 3 daughters so as my only son he needs to have a strong male identity lmao!!

I agree fishpond! Just takes a few of us brave enough! Personally though I don't think Theodin/Theoden is "wierd" just quite different and rarely heard of. (Think anything goes these days and have heard of some vv odd choices! Each to their own though I say! )

Pippin=Aunt Mabel.

I always liked the idea of having a Samwise. DH isn't keen, but I still like it. TBH I'd probably use most of the hobbit names for pets rather than children.

If this DC turns out to be a boy, he'll be Cormac, but its just because we both love the name, not because of anyone it conjures up, like Samwise probably would.

I'm expecting a boy any day..(due date today!) and he's going to be named Theodin. :) DH and I are fans of LOTR but not madly, we just wanted an underused name with a nice ring to it.. (pardon the pun :)) AND with a bit of history behind it. Think you'll find that alot of the Tolkien names are based on Old English historic words and the like and let's face it, just because a name may conjure up images of LOTR or any other work of fiction, so what?! All names have to start somewhere!? We figure with Theodin.. (spelt slightly differently from Tolkien spelling anyway,) he'll have the choice of 3 names to go by as an adult.. (Theodin, Theo or Odin.) We will nn him Theo as a boy, then it's up to him! We like the fact that Theodin is a bit of a mix of Old English origin and Old Norse Mythology. :)
One of my best friends has an Arwen too and the name's always been very well received! :)

Some are more 'normal' than others, for example Rohan, Beaumont, Cormac, Lucius, Luna, Celestina, Hestia and Hermione wouldn't necesarily remind people of the book.

Rohan, Peregrin / Pippin, Sirius, Lucius, Balin, Emeric, Blaise, Beaumont, Theoden, Cormac

Arwen, Ginevra, Elladora, Celestina, Luna, Lavender, Hestia, Andromeda, Hermione

I think at the moment you could just about get away with any of those, depending on how "unusual" you want to be.

I do love most of the LOTR ones, shame they're just a bit too odd.

I had managed to get DH to agree to Laurelin if DS had been a girl. He had no idea...

I think Lucius, Cormac, Arwen, Celestina and Hermione are "real life" enough.

Pretty much - though Alecto is heavily overridden by the (female) Fury of the Greek myths, and I'd thing of the goddess first for Hestia too.

A few of the others are more mainstream and so don't scream the books so loudly: Rohan, Peregrine, Lucius, Blaise, Cadmus, Lavender, Hermione (I know all of these in RL, all adults older than HP and the LOTR films, and the Rohan was female). And Caradoc and Cormac seem normal to me (wasn't the latter a recent Archbishop of Canterbury?)

I like rohan,ori,arwen and luna :) DS once went to nursery with an aragorn!
